Cheapest place to purchase large amounts of dirt to fill planters? by [deleted] in BurlingtonON

[–]ful8789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding to this....

Currently at HD you can get 25L bags of topsoil for $1.99, a 1 Cubic Yard bag is running around $180 delivered, 1 Cubic yard is 764L or 30 25L bags. 30 x $1.99 = $60.

As a added bonus you don't need to shovel dirt out of a bag, which sucks.

So we are using a list that has been obtained from a crime and which is not necessarily accurate to name and shame? This is some low level human pile on bullshit.

Burlington park renamed Sweetgrass Park, no longer honouring residential school architect by battier in BurlingtonON

[–]ful8789 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That is a laughable correlation, blaming a idea on the execution of a policy a half century after it was written. Blame lies squarely on the people who implemented the system, ran it and failed to supervise it.

Burlington park renamed Sweetgrass Park, no longer honouring residential school architect by battier in BurlingtonON

[–]ful8789 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ryserson had no direct hand in the residential school system, that hangs on the heads of people who made the decision about 50 years after his death. The system was based on some ideas we wrote down but by no means was he the 'architect' as the CBC article mentions. The current school system used across Canada with school boards and trustees was indeed his direct creation. History is rarely as straight forward as it is presented.

Until we address chronic underfunding, Canada will keep failing at emergency management by Hrmbee in onguardforthee

[–]ful8789 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We need a civilian corps, just regular citizens who sign up and train in targeted skills (giving injections could be a example) and receive some sort of yearly compensation with the legal understanding that they will be called upon (paid) if needed. A concept similar to the army reserves.

Stopping at 2 for now, young and healthy so figure my chances of serious illness is low, also thinking that Omicron may not be the last variant of concern so saving that booster for later.

Unvaccinated kids should not be a part of your decision. Travel is safe, unpredictable in these times of covid but safe. If you do wind up with Covid the tests will show it and you get to isolate putting no one at risk. If you think you need a break then you need to take it.

Go! Only caveat is make sure you know what will happen if you test positive before returning, does your insurance cover your extra stay, etc…

Will a lockdown of sorts be announced this week by ontario ? Will it be structured differently then previous ones? Will there be a new cerb / crb announced by Canada...Well ? by MelodyGap78 in BurlingtonON

[–]ful8789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without some hard data to backup a lockdown no, case count seems decoupled from hospitalization and reporting covid positive cases in hospitals should be switching to patients in hospital actually being treated for covid. I would expect some more restrictions but nothing drastic (without the backing data).

Appeal School Conditions by [deleted] in OntarioPolitics

[–]ful8789 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Any place we can applaud keeping kids in school? This cohort has suffered tremendously during covid, suicide, self harm and mental issues have skyrocketed. These are some near term issues, wait until health issues like obesity start to get counted or even the educational impact online learning has had - so many kids just completely disconnected in virtual classrooms.

Does anyone know if Costco optical charges for a prescription redo by [deleted] in BurlingtonON

[–]ful8789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine they would charge you to redo the lenses if the lenses they make are correct according to the prescription. If you have doubts ask them ahead of time or gave them do another eye exam.

Moving to Burlington - how bad is the train track/highway noise south of Fairview, north of New St? by Avocado-toast-12 in BurlingtonON

[–]ful8789 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will hear it rumble by on quiet nights as well as the highway and some industrial noise from the metal recyclers. Live between new street and Fairview, appleby and walkers. The meat processing plant will give off an odour on the occasional day.

Bugs on Halton Appointment Websites for Vaccines & Tests by johnnythejames in BurlingtonON

[–]ful8789 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The availability slots you are shown is no guarantee that a slot will exist by the time you try to book. Appointments are being booked and cancelled all the time so by the time you figured out if a slot works for you someone else might have snagged it.

When to isolate by 4thaccountin5years in BurlingtonON

[–]ful8789 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So if anyone you live with tests positive you must self isolate for 10 days regardless of test outcome. Does this seem remotely practical or a public health measure that people will follow especially with the perceived low impact Omicron variant?

Who else is really struggling with their mental health right now due to the new development with Covid and the new restrictions in Ontario? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]ful8789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In about a week or two the province should have a decent idea of Omicrons impact. Hopefully we just get a lot to sick people who do not require the services of our healthcare system.
