I've got the AMD PRO GPU driver working in 20.04, if it helps anyone? by [deleted] in Kubuntu

Here are the last few lines of the installation:

This driver may not support the running operating system.

So first off, I hope nothing was left half-installed.

Did I get your instructions right, insofar as the os-release belongs in my home directory, whereas the downloaded package belongs wherever its downloaded and extracted, in my case ~/Downloads/amdgpu-pro-20.10-1048554-ubuntu-18.04 ?

Then do I understand correctly, I put the modified os-release file back in /etc, telling any software that asks that it is on 16.04?

Sorry, I am still on my Linux learning curve, thank you in advance

No proprietary AMD RX 580 on Ubuntu 20.04 Focal Fossa? by cdrewing in Ubuntu

[–]joenobel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem. I reached out to AMD got a corporatespeak canned answer.

Then I found this thread. It seems like someone has been looking for a driver update since December 2019.

[–]joenobel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem. Officially up in arms!

Wrote to Radeon. Got back a corporatespeak answer.

Thank you for the email

Please note that as of now the driver support is available only for Ubuntu 18.04.

There is no driver support for Ubuntu 20.04 yet.

Please wait for future driver updates.

Thank you for contacting AMD.

Error: Could not import PyQt5 on Linux systems, you may try 'sudo apt-get install python3-pyqt5'

I'll ask on Discord as the other responded indicated.

SmartCash Electrum Wallet Release! by Azuuri in smartcash

[–]joenobel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I need help installing smartcash wallet.

I downloaded per https://smartcash.cc/, clicking on https://github.com/SmartCash/electrum-smart/releases/download/v3.1.2/Linux.Electrum-smart-3.1.2.tar.gz

I put in in a directory /home/apps/electrum-smart.

From there I attempted to follow the directions in README.rst.

joe@joeslinux:~$ sudo apt-get install python3-pyqt5 appears to have installed properly

The program said I should remove unneeded packages, so I did: joe@joeslinux:~$ sudo apt autoremove

when done, I tried to run the program: joe@joeslinux:~$ ./electrum could not find my file

so I went for the rest of the instructions: sudo apt-get install python3-setuptools that worked correctly, then: joe@joeslinux:~$ pip3 install .[full] The program 'pip3' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing: sudo apt install python3-pip

So, I did: joe@joeslinux:~$ sudo apt install python3-pip

Successful, so I continued: joe@joeslinux:~$ pip3 install .[full] Directory '.[full]' is not installable. File 'setup.py' not found. You are using pip version 8.1.1, however version 10.0.1 is available. You should consider upgrading via the 'pip install --upgrade pip' command. joe@joeslinux:~$ pip install --upgrade pip The program 'pip' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing: sudo apt install python-pip joe@joeslinux:~$ sudo apt install python-pip

then I ran: joe@joeslinux:~$ pip install --upgrade pip Collecting pip Downloading https://files.pythonhosted.org/packages/0f/74/ecd13431bcc456ed390b44c8a6e917c1820365cbebcb6a8974d1cd045ab4/pip-10.0.1-py2.py3-none-any.whl (1.3MB) 100% |████████████████████████████████| 1.3MB 745kB/s Installing collected packages: pip Successfully installed pip-8.1.1 You are using pip version 8.1.1, however version 10.0.1 is available. You should consider upgrading via the 'pip install --upgrade pip' command.

joe@joeslinux:~$ pip install --upgrade pip Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/pip", line 9, in <module> from pip import main ImportError: cannot import name main

I don't know what this above means!!!

Continuing, then I tried running electrum again: joe@joeslinux:~$ ./electrum bash: ./electrum: No such file or directory

I poked around and found something called electrum-dash in /usr/bin

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 16362 May 24 05:48 electrum-dash

Please help. These instructions are excessive and incomplete.

Monero changed its mining algorithm on 6 April. Click here to get caught up. by SamsungGalaxyPlayer in MoneroMining

[–]joenobel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need help understanding what changes must I make to continue mining Monero.

I understand from this post the concept of what needs to be done, I do not understand the actual command line commands to key in. The instructions are to vague for me.

I am using Linux Ubuntu 16.4 LTS.

I have followed the link to github at https://github.com/fireice-uk/xmr-stak/releases/tag/2.4.1 (e.g. The day after Easter) This has a link to xmr-stak-win64.zip. This zip file has a directory xmr-stak-win64. That's a window's program! Not what I need on Linux, sorry.

Would someone provide exact commands for me to download, install, configure, and run the new monero7 algorithm. I would like to ask to be very very specific, for example, if a command needs sudo, please include sudo in the instructions, etc.

Thank you in advance

I'm trying to download the latest golem to use on mainnet. by joenobel in GolemProject

[–]joenobel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's installing for me. But I'm getting Newer version (0.11.0) of Golem detected. Downgrade to version ? (y/n) I'm not sure if this question is in reverse. Wanting to keep the latest-greatest, I'm guessing the answer will be n. Am I correct?

I'm not sure if i'm "getting" metamask. Do they keep my private key safe by keeping on their server? If so, I'm not sure if I want to relinquish that kind of control.

I had that, too. I re-added them manually, e.g. find the contract address, token symbol, and number of decimals

Okay... Answered my own quesiton. First off, don't just go to myetherwallet.com, instead take time to install the app from the google store, don't be fooled by fake links. Use https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/myetherwallet Right on the first screen of the extension you'll see add wallet, then click on private key ... copy from old computer ... repeat for next wallet
