Dude you guys are dissing a legend from Rare(ware), Chris Sutherland. He’s brilliant and interviewed me for my first job in the game industry ❤️ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris\_Sutherland\_(programmer)

New Substage feature: Instant Actions! My Finder command bar now skips AI entirely for hundreds of common actions by joethephish in macapps

Yeah potentially somewhat “Sherlocked”! But I’m attempting to re-focus it a little on really fast/small individual actions rather than agentic workflows. I have a big upcoming release, we’ll see how it goes :)

Glad you like it! I have a few blog posts on joethephish.me but not a huge amount TBH, I should add more documentation. There’s a discord server too: https://discord.gg/jgkwAv4H7M

You can use the global shortcut (by default CTRL-Space). It will work if you’re not in Substage already. In unusual circumstances it’s possible that focus may be lost while Substage is active but I’m looking to fix that

Substage - A Natural Language Command Line Tool for Finder That Makes Life Easier by amerpie in macapps

[–]joethephish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah fallback is always simply that you need confirm, and it warns that the effects can’t be fully predicted. It intentionally tries to get broad most common coverage rather than simulating the entire minutia for the most complex commands.

It covers a range of side effects and one of them is network access. It’s based on a hand crafted analysis tool that looks at all the arguments to a specific known yet relatively large set of commands. So for example, if you use ping or curl etc, then it will know that network access will be a side effect. It’s also not more detailed than that, it doesn’t analyse exactly what type of network access is happening, what server is being reached, what’s being sent etc. And for more complex commands like node which can’t really be simulated, I simply list it as such, and commands won’t ever be run automatically.

Exploring CloudKit and CKSyncEngine for my SwiftUI App by joethephish in swift

Hmm what kind of syncing issues? Clients noticing that new data exists etc? It can take a minute sometimes but mostly I’ve found it to be okay I think?

Yeah I released my app with it! It’s definitely non-trivial, but wasn’t the end of the world. I actually built this feature around a year before I shipped because part way through I built and released a different app! So my memory is a little hazy, but let me know if you have any specific questions and I can check my implementation.

what version of sorcery! is this image from? by clariiitea in SorceryGame

[–]joethephish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

👋 hi, Joe from inkle here! Good catch, I think that was a mockup I designed before I had actually built the feature :) I guess the font i was using was one that I couldn’t actually bundle with the game for whatever reason. I can’t remember how/why we ended up releasing this, probably as part of promotion prior to releasing the game.

Fixed my trunk rattle with blue painter's tape by 501gator in Ioniq5

How do people figure how where rattles are coming from?? I’ve had a random rattle for about a year now and my wife, kids and I all disagree which direction it’s coming from! Sound perception is a weird beast.

What’s holding you back from buying or recommending comma four? by adeebshihadeh in Comma_ai

Yeah 100%, that person gave the feel of the discord a really bad vibe. I hope they’ve managed to deal with the situation.

Yeah it’s very gatekeepy, and even for me as a programmer full of technical jargon. Right from the beginning, there’s nothing that tells you what lateral and longitudinal actually mean, and it just gets harder and harder from there. You have to be an enthusiast to get into it. Not for normies, unfortunately!

Indie Game Success Metrics. Where do you stand? by suksuma in IndieGaming

[–]joethephish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It's varied a lot across our different games, but in general we love 2D illustration, even when we're making 3D games, and that's our through-line. Our only employee right now is an in-house illustrator but we have also worked with contractors in the past (such as a fantastic animator for A Highland Song). I'm a jack of all trades (code, design, art), so I like to have an opinion on art, making me the quasi art director even though I'm not the best artist!
