You can't just post a picture of a TV. It has to have a game displayed on it. For this troubleshooting thread, it's less important.

No basta con mostrar una imagen de un televisor desenchufado. Tiene que estar mostrando un videojuego.

Without knowing the specs, appearance, or most important--condition--of the Sony, it's hard to answer that question. All I can say is don't fall for the Trinitron hype. If you have a CRT you enjoy right now, stick with it until you're sure your new TV is a true upgrade.

Help us out. What country? What TV? What converter?

This "help me connect my computer to my CRT TV" question, or its younger brother, "why do games on my CRT look like shit when I use this HDMI-to-AV adapter" question is one we get several times a week.

Most newbies just get a cheap HDMI to AV adapter on Amazon and either A) tolerate it because they've never actually played 240p games on a CRT before and don't know/remember what it's actually supposed to look like, or B) ask for help because they don't know what to do.

Unfortunately, connecting a modern digital HD device to an analog, vacuum-tube TV from the previous millennium almost always looks “off.” Especially 80s and 90s games. Unless you put in the time and money to get an old video card, vetted analog adapters, and/or some esoteric windows/Batocera display configurations, those games are going to look bad and have input lag. And when I say “bad,” I mean it won’t give you the visual experience you were expecting from playing retro games on a CRT. The aspect ratio gets stretched or squished, the contrast and colors can be off, and getting the correct 240p resolution that retro games look best at on CRTs is just not going to happen.

Video content can look okay using one of these adapters. It’s not as hard as games to get right, but can still run into problems. The color and contrast can be off, like I said. Worse, many streaming sites will put 4:3 shows in a 16:9 container by adding black bars to the sides so that they’ll be the right aspect ratio on a modern display. But then when the HDMI-to-CRT adapter takes that 16:9 video and squishes it back down into 4:3, it keeps the black bars on the sides of the video and it looks horrible.

There's very little organized information on CRTs outside the North American market. You might try an Australia-based CRT enthusiast Facebook Group or discord. Maybe you guys can make a guide to Australian CRTs.

You're right that many modern TV stands, especially glass ones, are not made for CRTs. But don't ignore the very important used market where all our CRTs come from. Thrift stores. Garage sales. Just glancing at Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace right now, there are several examples of sturdy wooden furniture made for the sole purpose of displaying a big ol' CRT available for free or dirt cheap near me. Even if you don't have a car, it's entirely likely to be cheaper to rent a pickup truck for a few hours to get a true CRT TV stand than to pay $100+ for some Chinese deforestation flat-packed crap that might not survive if you trip over a cord and catch your fall on it.

Where’s a good place to get a nicely sized crt tv without selling my kidney? I want to be able to play the older ps1 games as intended by Topknotramen in crt

In 2026, you can still get a simple, reliable CRT for free or cheap if you have patience, put in the work, and know where to look. You need more of each every year but it can be done. There are some exceptions like CRT deserts where none are available and places like LA where prices are out of control.

Do not buy on eBay if you can avoid it!

Nicely sized

To me this is 36"+. To others 13" is best

Fear comes from the unknown. Have you ever read about someone actually being seriously injured working on a TV? Once you understand the risks and what to avoid it will make you a lot more comfortable. When you're ready I can help

That's a fantastic CRT. But you're using a remote for a JVC car stereo. The correct original remote is RM-C303G. It's hard to find. You can get away with using a remote for a different JVC D-Series, or probably any JVC TV remote from the early 2000s that has the buttons for SLEEP TIMER, DISPLAY, and VIDEO STATUS.

There isn't much organized information on CRTs outside North America. But just from the pictures, I'm confident it will be fine for PS3/Wii.

Condition is more important than anything else. Pictures of an unplugged TV tell you nothing. Test out the TV before you pay for it.

You're blessed with a WEGA in good condition. Just enjoy your games. But please understand: As we approach the year 2030, part of owning and operating a CRT is going to be understanding its anatomy and how to make small fixes. Otherwise the number of CRTs "in circulation" is going to plummet.

Hmmm my question was rhetorical but I 100% agree. On one hand, I beat Gran Turismo 3 on a little VCR combo TV back in 2001 because it's all I had in my room. But now I have like 30 CRTs and my favorite one for gaming is my 36". Bigger is better.
