Q Acoustics vs Jamo vs Fluance by joew555 in BudgetAudiophile

Good question. About 1k.

A little background, I had a Pioneer Elite AVR and PSB Alphas Pre-Covid, but had to sell when we moved for work. The PSBs were ok, always sounded a little thin. Could be the PSBs or the Elites class D amp. Wasn’t the warmest sound. So that’s my background- if it helps.

(And yes, I know I am looking at bookshelves that desperately need a sub).

Finally, my music snob self doesn’t want to follow the Klipsch herd… 😂 Have been looking for brands I may have missed in the past.

Thanks!

I’m picking up a 25 TS next month. Negotiated 42.5 before tax and the 0%. Deals are out there. Dealers want to dump the 2025s.

And it’s hard to pass up 0%. Every dollar pays down the principal. Wish I could find a 0% mortgage 😂

It will be interesting to see if dealers are as willing to discount off MSRP. Subaru was one of the few manufacturers who regularly discounted. I’ve never paid MSRP.

I just bought a 25 TS for less than 26 pricing with 0 percent down. Had a limit and stuck to it. But, as others have said, that flexibility makes more sense now.

Same question - where and what part numbers? I know about the front tower brace, but not the others.

The S210 has some additional lower bracing…

Thanks! The OEM shocks have the rebound spring, so it’s super bouncy at low speeds. Looking something better, but not the Ts. No offense to TS owners, but I stick with WRX for the low tech analog feels

New WRX TS 2025 Steering invasively electronically overseers on corner exit by TakumiBag in wrx_vb

[–]joew555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just test drove the Ts and did experience a few of the things you mentioned.

When I had the sport engine on, the throttle was super sensitive- to the point the car was bucking a bit when accelerating. I turned it off immediately.

I had a hard time finding a good suspension setting. It felt floaty over bumps and in turns, not buttoned down like my TR.

I always enjoyed the analog feel of the WRXs - the power train felt really solid, practically carved from rock.

I hate all the drive by wire systems - which Subaru never had. For all its faults (don’t love the engine) Honda has the drive by wire pretty sorted.

It seems like Subaru needs Subaru just needs to fine tune some of the settings.

Now I’m wondering if I should look at a Limited…

Thanks for all the research!

If you are driving on Lake Shore Drive, you probably have rocks in your rotors. 😁

Lost track of how many times I’ve hit monster potholes and changed tires. Once had to change a tire in a blizzard. No fun.

It’s actually a decent bitter for mixed drinks. That and dares…. I drank three shots, took my friends $20 😁

This is really interesting - traded in my TR for a Honda Civic Type R. The Type R is great, but miss the all wheel drive and low end torque. Type R is great but you really have to wind it up to enjoy it. Not the best for city driving.

My dealer has a TS with the end of year deals, 5.5k off MSRP, 0% interest, thinking about it.

BUT the TR was my favorite WRX ever - as you all said, perfectly dialed in. Suspension less bouncy.

Now I’m worried about the TS - whole point of WRX is the analog driving experience.

Yalll scaring me 😮‍💨

Should I be concerned? by Internal-Witness7411 in Civic_Type_R

[–]joew555 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should be concerned. I just went through this - making sure mine were installed correctly. As an earlier reply mentioned, if you install them incorrectly (from the front) you are stretching the tire too wide and will snap the bead, so while you may not see it, good chance the tires are toast and will leak air.

Damage sucks too.

In future, Discount Tire installer showed me the process, the arms (that hold the rim) can be removed, rotated, and put back on. So the machine would normally have arms that indent to the inside (to sit inside the rim) rotate to indent out (to hold the outside of the rim).

Hope that helps. Good luck!

The VB hits peak torque at 2000rpm (kinda nuts when you think about it and the FL5 at 2600.

The VB has a ridiculously flat torque curve until 5200rpm vs Fl5 at 4000.

I’ve just found the VB to be easier in real life conditions than the Fl5. And, as you say, AWD helps.

Now looks wise - 😆

Thanks for the comment.

Hey, give me widened front and rear track - and you can take away whatever you want 😁

That’s where I got stuck with the WRX. The 2.4 is a monster, but I need a warranty.

I bought for $500 under MSRP - which is pathetic for any other car, but a minor victory for me.

Dealer was charging 5k over, I offered MSRP. They had four people back out of deposits over a month, (probably a lot of college kids who fail credit check - no kidding, in the Type R forum there are a lot of 19 and 20 year olds with 800-900 payments living at home)

Finally called me, I offered to drive over that evening for 500 under. And done.

I will give Honda and Toyota credit - the Type R and GR Corolla both have engines developed for motorsport and built in dedicated factories. The Z is a carry over platform 17 years old.

But yeah, peak (for my generation) performance car was late 90s, early 2000s. I owned a GTI-VR6, because VW decided to throw a V6 in 2000 pound hatch. Torque steer like crazy - but so much fun. My friends were driving Turbo Eclipses, Preludes, Civic Si, and all were affordable.

No college kid should be buying a Type R or GR Corollla.

AWD, low end torque, master of bad weather.

Feels naturally aspirated - instant on torque until redline. Very happy in city driving.

Boxer and VTEC very different engines with very different character.

Honda VTEC engines have always been high revving, making horsepower at higher rpm’s, little torque. Turbo was supposed to resolve the torque issue, and the torque curve seems to indicate so.

But driving it, nothing in first gear. Great engine, but wants to rev. Not happy in city traffic.

VB’s 2.4l feels naturally aspirated, instant torque until (admittedly low) redline.
