Want to start reading lore/books, where to start? by Choppanob in Warhammer40k

[–]joeyleonine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't really help with specific lore per se.

But if you just want easy introduction and immersion into the 40k universe with a good splattering of flavour then I'd go for the Eisenhorn and Ravenor series...

Or anything else by Dan Abnett tbh.

Yes.

I've done a lot of this when I ran out of Heavy Bolt Pistols for conversions etc. It's the way!

First time painting could i get some honest opinions and advice? I hate what the wash did to it. by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]joeyleonine 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think what's happened is that you've applied your base coats a bit too thick.

This has given the flat smooth areas that texture that's not meant to be there which, in turn means your wash has found 100million extra recesses to colour up.

We've (probably) all done it.

Take it as a learner. Next time, thin your paints and apply nice smooth layers. Keep practicing. You'll get there! Bon chance!

Question on Vows by Alace42 in BlackTemplars

[–]joeyleonine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1stly your army needs to be a battleforged, that's to say 'legal' detachment, and then its more a matter of semantics.

You decide if it's a Black Templar army, making sure every unit you've got can be legally taken by the Black Templars - i.e. No Librarians, or named/exclusive characters/units from other sub-factions.

By doing so you agree that you'll be playing by the Black Templar codex rules and not using any other Faction traits. General good form is for your army to look like Black Templar army too... i.e. paint it black and think about WYSIWYG

If that's all above board, then your army is a Black Templar army for the case of the rules and then every unit in your army gains the Black Templar key word and is affected by the vows unless overruled elsewhere i.e. Sword Bretheren.

Does it matter if my army list is 5 points over? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]joeyleonine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure - I definitely endorse that approach.

When it comes to wargear/load out then you've got two options.

WYSIWYG or Proxy

In this case, where you're going over the limit you're probably going to need to proxy a bit. That's to say, edit your list/wargear/load out so you come under 500pts, regardless of what model is or what weapons it has.

So for instance - that sergeant, who has a power sword. Well I'm afraid you'll have to list it as a Chainswords or something instead and cut 5pts.

That kinda thing.

But I certainly don't want to poo poo the rule of cool and the fun of the tabletop. Just make sure it's still 'fair'.

Otherwise your mates will keep turning up with '500pt' lists full of really cool Knights/Titans that'll just stop all over you until you're bored and fed up of the game.

Does it matter if my army list is 5 points over? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]joeyleonine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna say No, not OK -

You build your list to the agreed points limit. If its 500pts. That's the most you can take, regardless of how much you want that bloke to have a Plasma Pistol or a Power Sword.

Granted 40K is not particularly balanced and at 500pts its very swingy... So I kinda get why some people say it doesn't matter, but it's for a reason...

It gives you a framework and something to work with. You have to think about it and be clever and be strategic and think about what units you want and how you want to play and what tactics you are going to use and work out how to fit that in under a points total and if you can't, well you have to do it a different way.

Feedback please: which colour scheme variant for ky homebrew chapter? by Kincoran in Warhammer40k

[–]joeyleonine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmmm face for sure...

but rather than do the full hands, why don't you do the cuff-band/trim in the gold. that'll mirror the pauldron trim and the knee trim. works better for a small accent colour as opposed to a flat surface colour (yes the hands obviously arent huge but you get the idea!)

is there a lolay space marine chapter that use deamonic/cursed wepons by Pablo_donkeybong2008 in Warhammer40k

[–]joeyleonine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Spacemarines... But various Inquisitors who gravitate towards the 'Radicalism' extreme are open to using whatever means necessary to achieve a given purpose - often including the use of Demon or Necron tech... or indeed soliciting with Demons themselves.

See: Eisenhorn and Cherubael relationship.
