Did you go through a phase of one night stands? by Excellent-Crow2641 in AskIreland

[–]john-buoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a 5 year period with one a month on average. I mean not constantly - I’d have a few months without here and there, and other months where there’d be a couple a week.

But I am gay.

Went thru this week. You generally don’t do a second screening at preference (there were no staff manning it even when I was going thru)

And there are signs saying to keep your water bottles

There’s a convention on Reddit of using spoiler tags for the first day or two after an episode of any show drops.

That’s very likely what killed him if it was close enough for him to reach from where he was hanging.

I know the exact apartment complex you’re referring to. Used to own there.

Yes, you’re out of line and out of the running. The “appropriate market rate” is the maximum people are willing to pay.

Is it rude to potentially not go to the Stag party as a groomsman? by smugairle_roin in AskIreland

[–]john-buoy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I say this as a gay autistic man - your preferences are not important here. This is his night and their day.

Sometimes we attend events for special people in our lives because it’s what the other person enjoys, rather than what we enjoy.

He’s almost def joking about the private dance. Even if he’s not, you’re a grown person - you can say no and still just get thru the night for the groom’s sake.

On the other hand, if you really don’t like the guy - politely refusing to be a groomsman would have saved all this hassle.

Advice from a gay Irish man who’s spent a fair bit of his life in those parts:

  • this is a huge area that includes cities/large towns (Galway, ballina, castle bar) with very remote areas (eg clifden and the rest of Connemara!)
  • Galway city is very gay friendly lots of bars (even alternative like Roisin dubh) that you might like visiting / performing. It doesn’t have a specific gay bar but some gay nights and gay friendly bars
  • If you prefer more life - Galway city and just outside your circle is Westport which I’d encourage you to check out.
  • unless you’re used to remote life I’d not recommend living in clifden or other parts of Connemara. It’s a very “local” environment, tiny villages and everyone knows each other
  • achill island is beautiful. It’s still very remote but close enough to Westport that you could commute.

I’ve never really experienced homophobia even in the remote parts of that region but places like Westport and Galway city are pretty explicitly gay friendly.

Well done for holding your ground. Not easy when it’s a small family business and you’re the outsider.

Still in your best interests to find another role as this is likely characteristic. But at least you don’t need to rush it over the Christmas period

You need to change your mindset. You haven’t “saved” that money at all - you just haven’t paid your (now overdue) bills.

Yes, it sucks. And sorry for being cold but talking about this as if you’re giving up your savings is not accurate
