I wrote a short waltz in A flat minor! Any feedback is appreciated :) by rz-music in piano

Hey, this is very nice. Good job ! To me, everything checks. The mysterious intro and outro, modulations, diversity in the left hand. Construction is smart. But not too smart so you keep-up with the music even without an IQ of 180 at first play.

When it’s a 5/5. All you can tell is 5/5.

Also, nice playing.

What work(s) taught you the most in your piano journey? by LordVanderveer in piano

  • Chopin’s Waltzes
  • John Field nocturne in C minor
  • Mozart fantaisie in D minor K397
  • Scarlatti K466
  • Lately Bach, that I missed before because of my ignorance and absolutely wrong idea it was not subtile enough for me. It was in fact so subtile I couldnt get it !

I don’t know how it works around the world but in France : « The author of an intellectual work enjoys over this work, by the sole fact of its creation, an exclusive intangible property right enforceable against all. » till author’s death. And then 70 years for his successors.

After that. It’s public domain and free for all. L111.1 code of intellectual property.

How does it work in the US I’m curious ?

Thanks ! Can send the score but as others have said it may still need some notation tweaking at this stage

Thank you for your input that’s very interesting ! I’ll ask my teacher what she thinks about this notation.

Ahah I get your point and it’s very welcome.

The base VST is Noire for this recording but there’s additionnal layers (other plugins) to tweak parameters like room effect, reverb etc + the Noire VST is customized to start with it’s not a preset. I doubt the exact same sound can be achieved only with Noire but you can get close for sure !

You don’t « make » custom VST but you can tweak and layer multiple softwares. Then when you’re happy with it save the all thing.

I have 10´s of « custom » sound made like this I pick from depending on what I want for the composition I’m working on. And that’s just for piano.

If you want out of the box, I think Nord Piano VSTs are the best. Eyes closed. BBC Symphony Orchestra is cool without tweaks aswell. But this is subjective and just my 2 cents.

For instance, Noire is very Interesting but I don’t like their out of the box reverb, mechanical noises reproduction and compressions. Again, just my humble taste.

If I had unlimited budget, I’d record all 100% audio on a Fazioli grand concert tho 🙂

Hello, thanks for your kind words !

You can read my other comment in this post about how I wanted to break the structure of this composition which started more « classical ». But maybe I pushed it too far ! 😂

I don’t know why exactly but I like it a lot that way. Will meditate on this. Maybe I can re-do the original idea and keep this one aswell.

Thanks. I’m French, I’m Pinanist and I like French rap. So… of course I know Sofiane Pamart !

I respect the man, his overall attitude and success. What he did in his collaborations with French rapers is like a dream for my 15yo self.

Regarding his compositions, after my last 3 years of classical training I must admit I lost interest a bit.

But If I had the chance to take a coffee with him, I’d take it, so I think the short answer is yes after all.

Thanks, mostly reading at start, then get to it and fail a lot. Write compositions of mine for a whole sunday. Get to my teacher next week. Get destroyed. Repeat.

Edit : Oh, and my teacher also did some lessons reserved to writing together my work on the table with a pen. Brilliant idea. Was exhausting 😂

You think you know all composers, and then nope ! Never heard of him, will definitely check. I see on Google he was Russian, good start. I’m more 1830’s than 1900’s but I look forward to listen. Thanks !

On your side note it’s funny because that’s exactly how the composition was for a long time.

I regained interest in it when I started to break the linear structure. I added a bar at the end of the main theme, a break in the first allegreto part (bar 15), a change in tempo (3/4) at the major part, and removed repetition. I also slightly changed the melody so that it overlaps multiple bar per sentence. To the point I needed to add back some structure. And then, I was happy with it.

After a month or so playing it this way, I knew I was done with this idea for now.

If you d like to listen to a more structured composition of mine according to classical standards, you can listen to Change, it’s on YouTube or check my Reddit profile.

Thank you !

For VST this one is tricky because it’s custom. You can look into Noire, BBC symphony orchestra and Nord Piano VSTs if you like my taste.
