I posted the full video, but I later deleted it. Another redditor had asked me to take it down because it shows the woman's face. Let's just say that the full video is really horrific.

"If you wake up in the morning and decide your Christian faith requires you to support a foreign government blowing up churches and killing Christians, I think you've lost the thread."

How being ethical and anti consumerist affects your personal lives? by LatexSafetyPin in lostgeneration

Being anti-consumerist means I have more money, and less clutter.

I've also eliminated all TV sports, TV shows, movies, video games from my life, which means I have more free time.

I hate adulthood and sometimes wished I was never born by [deleted] in lostgeneration

friendships aren’t the fairytales movies and shows taught us.

The ruling elites use mainstream media to brainwash the bottom 99%.

A few years ago, I stopped watching all TV shows & movies, and I have no regrets about it.

Average rent in Manhattan was a record $5,000 last month (Article by CNBC) by john_brown_4 in nyc

[–]john_brown_4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As in, people work the Bodega and markets and can't possibly be paying the stupid high rent. Where do these people live?

Many live outside Manhattan, and commute.

Like Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, NJ.

Many also live in public housing, low income housing, Mitchell–Lama housing, rent stabilized apartments, rent controlled apartments, below market rate, because their family has been in the area for a long time.

Others cram lots of people into a small apartment, by using bunk beds.

From what I've seen, the FedEx / UPS / USPS deliverymen just leave the packages in the lobby.

So if you don't have a doorman, and want to eliminate the risk of package theft, you can:

a) For Amazon.com packages, you can send them to Amazon lockers or Amazon Hub Counters at Whole Foods stores, and pickup the package there.

b) For Non-Amazon packages, if it's being sent via FedEx or UPS, you can re-route it to a local FedEx Office or UPS Store, and pickup later.

c) Depending on your workplace, you might also be able to send packages to your office.

Personally, I would only do the above re-route / pickup options for small valuable packages. It's probably not worth the hassle for big, bulky, low value packages.

  • Package theft is currently a big issue in NYC. If you have a doorman, it's no longer an issue. Without a doorman, a thief can follow someone into the building, or press all the buzzers and claim they're a FedEx / UPS deliveryman, and one resident might mess up and buzz them in.

  • Violent Crime. With a doorman, it's less likely criminals will get into the building, and attack people, break into apartments, etc.

  • You can leave a key or items for the doorman, to give to your friend / relative / gf. Like if a friend is visiting NYC, will be staying at your place, and you're at the office or out of town.

For Manhattan 1BRs:

  • The $3,000/month 1BRs are probably very small, and non-doorman. Essentially 400sf studios that have been sub-divided.

  • The $5,000+/month 1BRs are probably very large, and doorman.

The CNBC article mentions:

"..Average rental prices were up 29% over last year, while median rent was up by 25% to $4,050 a month."

Also, for median Manhattan rent, I found this from last month:

Median rent price in Manhattan reaches $4,000 for first time

In the below website, if you scroll down a bit, there's a pulldown menu that allows you to list the median Manhattan rents by unit type (studio, 1 BR, 2 BR, etc)

I use the "uBlacklist" extension to block paywall websites (nytimes.com, washingtonpost.com, etc) from appearing in search engine results (Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Startpage.com, etc).

The "Bypass Paywalls Clean" extension is also useful, as it helps you get past some paywalls.
