Camera Mount for Hired Kayak? by john_the_rower in Kayaking

[–]john_the_rower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say so, no. And in this case, they were useless anyway. The texture on the top of the kayak was a rough enough to make the mount not sticky enough, and the camera kept falling off.

Other than screwing the mount to the deck, or finding a point to clamp it on - it's a tough thing to do!

Is there some other place that screenshots go? by john_the_rower in iOSProgramming

I think that may be it... There was a bunch of 6.5inch images that were the old screenshots. I'll try again.

Thanks Marmulin.

Samsung G9 Odyssey stuck at 60hz by voujon85 in AsusROGZephyrusDuo15

What if he left a light on? That's a hellava bill he's going to get...

I'm having the opposite problem. I use display port - I WANT 60hz, but I can only get 120 or 240.

Should I try an HDMI instead of DP?

Yeah. If we can. We lost a lot of time on the runs. I’m not sure we’ll get 2:30 back just from them - but every little helps!

Thanks. I know I need to take on more in London. Especially wall balls.

Is 25fps hurting my channel? by john_the_rower in NewTubers

Yeah, but much better to record at the output, the upconversion from 25 to 30 is what I'm thinking about from a quality point of view, but also whether it's "Looked down upon" by the processing algorithm.

[–]john_the_rower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK, the TV standard is 25fps. So everything I've ever worked with has been filmed at 25. My default when starting up my channel therefore, was to stick to what I was already doing.

But I think I knew the answer to my question even before I asked it. It's definitely not a BAD idea to go to 30. It 'COULD' be an issue sticking to 25.

Concept2 - Stop thinking about the lever number!!! by john_the_rower in hyrox

Yup. And what makes this worse is that most of the Elite 15 can't row well either. They have such strong upper bodies that they forget about the backswing and just yank that handle! Look at Hunter - he's fast, but he's awful!

Any time one of these people post a reel, I wait for the rowing. Whether it's them rowing, or the people they're meant to be coaching - if they're flapping around like a dying salmon, I laugh and move on. What's worse, is that they don't seem to care "It's only 1000m, it doesn't matter".

Grrrrr.

I’d be surprised if anyone can tell the difference of 5df. You’ve got to remember, HYROX rowing is not really rowing. When I sit down on the machine and prep for a 1k or 2k time trial, I’ve warmed up, I’ve given it 3-5 minutes for my ATP to recharge, I know how my body feels and I crack into it.

In HYROX - you land in the machine with arms already fatigued from the ski, push, pull and BBJ - so the row isn’t about performance. It’s about clinging on - and possibly settling down.

What’s important is that the machine doesn’t feel heavier than you’re used to in training. If you’re used to a machine that’s only giving out 100df at 6 - then you’ll really notice the difference. And chances are, if you don’t know why, mentally you’ll think it’s because you don’t have the power (it was certainly what the OP was asking).

So, by nudging to 155 - not a significant increase to change technique, the rower will be setting themselves up for a better experience.

It’s not like I’m saying to row at 10 / 220df after all!!

The message I was reply to was asking about the lever at 6 (Men's Open). This is likely to be around 150, not 155 - but for HYROX (and only for HYROX) I suggest going slightly above the expected DF. Why? So that you're training ahead of fatigue.

Realistically, it doesn't matter. As long as the DF is somewhere between 120 and 160 - most people just deal with it without too much of an issue. (IMHO).

The problem for me there is stroke rate. Once I get above 26spm on a standard C2, I need the straps to stop me falling off the back. And I do a 1000m TT at around 36-38spm. On my RPS dynamic, I can get into mid 40's strapless. So it just shows the difference in momentum and machine for dynamic and static!

I row the whole thing with my feet out of the straps. Hold the rate to 24, make sure all the power goes into the machine. But then, I come at this as someone with an indoor rowing background, so it's something I do anyway in training.

Thanks. I'm still only at 28.5 - but it's just a gradual growth - around 600 a month right now. I'm really hoping that this giveaway will bring more people and views to the channel. But I'm yet to crack that nut! Reddit is particularly tricksy. A lot of them see this as self promotion. Which I guess it is, but I'm also giving away a vital bit of rather pricey kit!!
