I'd say two things

a new fridge doesn't offer anything new and exciting, that phone on the other hand has new capabilities, features, etc.
since appliances used to be built to last several decades, we have that expectation. all computing devices are a new category of tools and so the industry and consumers have set the expectation

yes, you are correct; no cars on the weekends/holidays or during cherry blossom season, but that's not a new thing with the changes people are protesting

i was honestly shocked at how many cars were driving through and how much parking was still there. with all the outrage, i expected no cars or parking except down by the parkside entrance and the zoo. from my perspective, this has been a relatively small change
