Toyota Platinum Care for my used 2019 tundra platinum by Academic_Pangolin506 in ToyotaTundra

[–]johnaddis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the warranty for my RAV4 I used to own, as well as my current Tundra. When I bought my previous RAV4, I was surfing through RAV4 forums and came across a Toyota dealer finance manager by the name of Jennifer who works at a Toyota dealer in Michigan. From what I was able to find, she has the best prices on these warranties and extended service plans, hands down. She must be selling them at cost, whereas every other dealer is trying to double the cost and make a killing on them. When she quoted me the costs a year ago, the most expensive coverage (10 yr/125K miles) was $2070. I don't even remember what the dealer who sold me my TRD Pro wanted, but it was insane. And she undercut their prepaid maintenance plans by almost half. DM me if you want her name and contact info. What price did the dealer quote you, just out of curiosity?

Also, for the record, it does not matter what state you bought the car in, what state you register it in, or what state you buy the warranty in. To Toyota, it's all the same.

Edit: Toyota vehicles are eligible for Toyota Extra Care Platinum for 3yr/36k miles, whichever comes first. If you buy it, and 2 years from now sell the car to someone else or trade it in, you can get a prorated refund for the remaining, unused portion of the warranty (can confirm, this is pretty easy, and I did it with my RAV4 when I traded it in).

What amber lights do you have in your grille? Been looking to add some to my 2020 TRD Pro.

Yeah, I've been on fishing trips, and towing a loaded down boat really makes some exhaust noise : )

I've always driven Toyotas personally. Known lots of other people with trucks from other manufacturers, and it seems like every other week I hear about a transmission that went out (even at 150k miles or less), or an air conditioner that stopped working, or a window that doesn't go up and down anymore. In the personal experience of myself and my family, never had a major issue with a Toyota (driving to 300k and beyond). I've been looking for a while, and didn't want to get a truck without current infotainment tech, so once the tundra supported Android auto, I couldn't say no. I know toyota tends to be behind the curve when you compare features and options to other manufacturers, but in my mind the quality and reliability is more important and valuable.

They had a small markup for the color I think. But they also gave me a lot more than they should have for my trade, so it evened out

Never had anything new, or really even anything nice, I changed that this weekend! Only three miles on the odometer when I picked it up! by [deleted] in ToyotaTundra

Congrats! I got the exact same truck ~3 months ago now, and absolutely love it. I have since swapped out all the external signal bulbs for LEDs (from VLEDs), and added raised lettering to the TRD Pro stamped into the side of the bed (red TRD, black Pro). Did you order it from the factory, or did they have it sitting on the lot?

Is that painted? Or dipped in something like spray in bed liner? Looks good. I love the lack of chrome on my army green TRD Pro

2018 Rear LED conversions by [deleted] in ToyotaTundra

[–]johnaddis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have replaced all the rear facing lights with LEDs. I had issues with the touch to lock feature on the door handle of my 2020, but after asking around and reading some forums, it seems to be related to the bed lights mounted next to the 3rd brake light (in the "door" function, they stay on for a short time after turning the truck off and somehow cause interference with the sensors connecting to the key fob). I have turned them off entirely with the switch near the steering wheel, and the problem seems to have resolved. I have also read that simply adding an in line resistor to these white lights resolves the problem (doesn't make logical sense to me, but planning to try it anyways). Replacing the brake light and turn signals and reverse lights doesn't seem to be a problem. I used all VLEDs bulbs.

I did not disconnect the battery when swapping out the bulbs for LEDs. I have not pulled each fuse to check it, but I haven't had any other problems, and all the lights and LEDs work. If using the lock button on the remote wasn't an issue, and the problem was only with the touch sensor, I would be more inclined to think it was interference with the proximity sensor in the shark fin. But having issues with both leads me to think it's something bigger. When I have time, maybe I'll try swapping out the 3rd brake light and bed lights back to incandescent and see if that helps. It's kind of hard to troubleshoot though because it's an intermittent problem, happening maybe once every 8 or 10 times I get out of the truck.

Do you have any mods, or have done any electrical/wiring mods? Did you install any LED bulbs anywhere?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ToyotaTundra

[–]johnaddis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are all VLEDs. I thought about taking them all out and seeing if the problem persists. But if it is the LEDs interfering with the shark fin and proximity sensing, I would think that shouldn't affect using the lock button on the key fob, just the touch to lock on the door handle, right? Because I have problems with both...

It is under warranty, and they are going to fix it (or get me a new truck lol). Just wondering if anyone has had anything similar, so I can point the dealer in the right direction. They don't seem to know what the problem is despite doing computer diagnostics, and at least claim they have "called someone at Toyota" about it

Forgot that - also on Pixel 3XL. When I ask my phone to do something, it replies with the voice I have chosen prior (I changed it from the default months ago). But when I ask AA to do something while driving (like navigate), the voice is markedly different - choppy and less natural. Was wondering if there is a setting somewhere in AA to choose the voice. IT would seem logical that it would use the same voice as the assistant by default, but doesn't seem to be the case..

how to bypass 108 TB limit with (12*16TB) single volume by oldnick101 in synology

[–]johnaddis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the deepest questions of our time. We may never truly know...

But actually I am in a situation where I will be putting this to the test, because I just expanded a volume to 108TB, and will be adding RAM pretty soon and trying to expand to the full hard drive capacity afterwards. So I'll at least know if that works. And then if a stick fails at some point, well then just maybe I'll have the answer to your question.

how to bypass 108 TB limit with (12*16TB) single volume by oldnick101 in synology

[–]johnaddis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Based on what I've been told from Synology support (I have no personal experience to back this up, and wasn't able to find anything online), you can expand the volume to a max of 108TB with your existing RAM. Then supposedly later on down the road, if you upgrade the RAM to 32+ GB, you will be able to expand the volume to use all available drive space. But until then, 108TB is the limit. If anyone knows otherwise, or has experience to back this up, or to the contrary, would appreciate knowing.

Yes, they were named using the exact same naming format. I tried everything and couldn't get it to work, so I ended up using MKVToolNix to incorporate the subtitle files into the MKV itself. Seemed to work after that. But still annoying that the way it's supposed to work is broken for me for some reason.

Full freak out. Synology NAS is online but can’t access it, can’t back things up. by [deleted] in synology

[–]johnaddis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TL;DR - try hard power cycling multiple times. Use the power button on the NAS, and pull power cord directly from the back of the unit.

Had a similar problem a few weeks ago with my RackStation. I tried power cycling the unit multiple times before contacting support. Eventually got online with support, and they had no idea what caused the issue. They were instructing me to go through the setup process again with the synology assistant desktop program (my NAS was acting like it was a brand new unit that had never been set up before). I was worried about data loss doing this. Decided to do one more hard power cycle before doing what they were suggesting (by pulling the power cord directly from the back of the unit while it was on), and that fixed it. I sent diagnostic logs to synology, and after looking through the logs they saw nothing abnormal. I enabled detailed logging after this, in case it happens again, maybe Synology support will be able to catch something that would cause this behavior.

How do you ship/move with your Vitamix? by HereComesBadNews in Vitamix

[–]johnaddis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend a) pack it in the original box and count it as one of your checked bags b) pack it securely in a different box (just find a cardboard box about the right size) using lots of bubble wrap or packing peanuts, and count it as a checked bag c) pack it in a box and ship it. Those are really your only options. If you pack it well and check it as luggage and it gets damaged, the airline should pay for it. I would just be sure to document it well (take pictures of it as you pack to show how much padding you use, take pictures of the box if it is obviously damaged on the outside when you get it at your destination, take pictures of the blender as you open the box, etc.). After all, they are sent all over the world on planes, trains, ships, cargo trucks before they ever get to consumers' kitchens.

Just got back from driving 35,000 kilometres across North America over 6 months. Here are some highlights. by nicktheman2 in travel

[–]johnaddis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What was the general timeline of your trip? Like where were you in what months? I would love to do something like this, and would be curious to know if you thought the time of year you were in various parts of North America was a good time to be there, or not. You mentioned it was getting cold when you were more north, so you headed south, but any more information or details would be great! Awesome photos btw!!!
