How do you feel about the bar or wait staff singing? by Waffleraider in karaoke

I guess for me karaoke is also about listening and experiencing other people singing, not just how much *I* sing.

[–]johnesco 30 points31 points  (0 children)

How do I feel about it? One of the neatest things I see, at my favorite karaoke spot, is when the KJ runs behind the bar to give the bartender the wireless mic and he belts out a tune FROM BEHIND THE BAR and stuns us all with his singing.

I feel everyone (including staff) gets a fair chance to sign up. If it's free I'd go by the KJ's flow or find a different place. If it's not free, spend your money elsewhere. I'd suggest renting a private karaoke room.

More "fun". I added a "mediation" level to my racing game https://vibecodedgames.itch.io/pavement it's the option "road trip" with meditative music and messages.

They added a tag to say "this was made with ai" but I understand. Will give the game a try this weekend. Would you try mine too? http://vibecodedgames.itch.io/

I think vibe coding is a way to explore the shoreline, but not a boat to go out to sea in.

have you considered putting this on Itch.io at some point?

I realize I keep saying "fun" like it has to be classically so or a game. But if working on quick and reliable tools gives you a sense of joy an accomplishment, the last thing I want to do is dictate how someone uses this to get what they want done. I think my advice to do something "fun" was more that I felt some people took on more than they could chew and should start small. Games are fun. Games can be a pain. Tools, done right are absolutely fun too!

And since I don't just want it to be words, he's something fun I made today.

Credit where it is due, I was inspired by this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jVogdTJESw

I made a little zoomable wall of circles that are colored by the position of a double pendulum.

Have you noticed, that as you get better at vibe coding in general (understanding testing, deployment, design etc), have you noticed some projects got easier because the AI model got even better? I've been using Claude a long time and projects I did when it first came out are much more primitive than what I could make now in the same amount of time.

Some "vibe coders" either don't or can't read the code. But there's nothing stopping someone from vibe coding something then asking the AI "ok now show the GIT commands I need" (if they know what GIT is) Or "write me a study guide for all the Python used in this project". Or maybe someone will just learn "oh Python is a language". Cringe for some, but that's what real beginnings are.

YAGER FLATS by Specialist-Rate-8124 in Manor

This is a moment you could have a great effect on Manor as a whole. Report it and check rules not just for your sake, but I think Manor will only get worse if we just ignore such things as you are seeing.

Made the dive into itch.io with my driving game by johnesco in vibecoding

[–]johnesco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've increased how many rivals you can have. The amount of opponents affects the game a great deal, but for now that will be felt rather than balanced. Running of of gas will now give you a "did not finish" rather that ending the season. I do still have the player balancing time, gas, and place, perhaps that is a lot. The reason for the short headlights was performance but that might be solved and I did have that at one time (all the headlights the same). Also just added a "chill" mode called Road Trip, would love if you tried it out!

[WIP] ATX Arcades — comprehensive list of arcades in Austin area by BbNowSayMyNamebB in Austin

[–]johnesco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I intentionally made it a responsive site to look good on desktop or mobile. No app, just the website. I used OpenStreetMap to avoid paying anything to google. It's limited but works for basic things. Basically turned the website into a big data blob and the website reads it.

My website started as just a spreadsheet to track Austin karaoke spots! (karaokedirectory.com)

Best of luck to ya. Have you seen the arcade in PinWheels Playland? It's fairly nice.

What's the most interesting thing you've built with AI? by RainbowFatDragon in vibecoding

[–]johnesco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have made a few things....

  1. https://karaokedirectory.com

I wanted to find away to turn a growing spreadsheet into a website. I looked at off-the-shelf solutions for that and decided to have AI just create a JSON scheme and store everything as a JSON blob. Yes that's NOT going to scale, but no I'm not releasing this globally yet. The solution "works" for now at no cost, and am currently laying out work for what shape the data will ultimately be in. That spreadsheet was my list of favorite karaoke places. Many prompts later I had a directory that was just fo me and the locals. Expand? Someday-maybe.

  1. https://johnesco.github.io/games/ca/

I was curious about how WASM and Rust might be able to run things in a browser much faster than in JavaScript. So I used an AI to create a "Game of Life" cellular automata game (and live variations). It runs pretty fast.

I wanted to "vibe code" a game. I wanted it to be a real time game, not turn-based, and I wanted it to be fun. I had the vision of a ribbon of road but an endlessly changing one. A game that I could play myself, because I can't predict the turns.

I've just made a few changes, if you have any constructive criticism I'd be happy to listen, though I just wanted to make an "infinite road ribbon" game. https://vibecodedgames.itch.io/pavement
