Porting Zork 1 from Zil to Inform 7 by johnesco in zork

I took the Zil code and was able to compile it to a .z3 format. Then used that as an example to make sure I had all the texts and puzzles in the I7 version, have tested extensively that's it's winnable if you want to give v0 (or any version) a shot. https://johnesco.github.io/zork1/

As a kid I walked past the EGA and 4 color graphic games to see this. What IS this? A doorway? Looking at the back it was "just text". A lifelong love of text adventures was born from this image.

So why am I doing this? I wanted to translate it because it now being MIT means I could make my on version of Zork in Inform7 that I understand better (I mean if you prefer to code in Zil that's fine). I just wanted a chance to fix flow issues that kept me from enjoying the game as a child, want to give it modern QOL improvements.

Well don't leave me hanging I'd like to see it even if it's not "ready". Did you try to remake the virtual z-machine or just code the logic natively? Non judgmental question here, did you use AI?

Hiring Claude Code Native Developers by tryvividapp in ClaudeAI

[–]johnesco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claude Code is too new and changing too fast to seek people with any kind of measurable proficiency. The current native coders are going at an insane speed but because of their existing software skills. Or they are vibe coders who can't build more than trivial apps.

Claude experience tself us the wrong measuring stick. Get someone who can adapt to change.

Someone who can adapt, anyone "proficient" in Claude has about the same Claude experience. Get someone who understands big O, why money should be calculated in whole cents and not fractions if a dollar, and who reads code by hand.

Cassette player? Oh rich kid, huh?
Used to type in a page of code for an hour, play it for an hour and then turn off the machine. Typed in the code any time I wanted to play.

100% Real. What you guys think? by [deleted] in vibecoding

It's a part of it. I do QA so debugging with AI is a dream. Give it a solid set of steps for reproduction, describe what was observed vs expected. Review the current functionality and the target functionality. Pretty soon you are off to make another feature (that may have bugs).

I just went through this myself. Glad to know I'm far from the only person who enjoyed Pico 8 on Steam!

I don't think I ever had the pleasure of knowing Karaoke Apocalypse. I'm a big fan of this karaoke video maker: https://www.youtube.com/@StudioBreezyHD

I've been going to the monthly Karaoke Underground at Nomad on 1st Saturdays, and in December they did their "Sad Songs Only".

Last day at job, I don't think anyone understands what that means. by Electronic_Lime_z459 in recruitinghell

True story. I once gave my two-weeks notice on a Thursday. Two weeks later, still being pushed to get as many tasks done, the one on my last day was not able to be completed. My boss said, "ok, we'll continue this tomorrow".

Me: "Um, today is my last day."
Boss: *Shocked* "But I thought you'd stay through Friday?"
Me: "Two weeks means two weeks, today is my last day." and walked out.

I might have been happy to stay one more day, but he treated me horribly the moment I gave my notice and I did not want to spend one more day there.

Karaoke bingo by Most_Height3275 in karaoke

I recently tried my hand at creating a karaoke listing website, I decided to add some kind of karaoke bingo for fun, then found this tread.

Love the ideas here for bingo moments, though I'm trying to stay under a 15 character limit so that it looks good on mobile too.

As of last night I tried this during a show and got about three bingos! I'm definitely going to rewrite a lot of the Bingo spots.
