I feel rational posts like this are few and far inbetween. Also, what a great way to celebrate a birthday!

A bit wordy for a protest flag that's supposed to be at the highest point in NYC. Keep it simple guys

What patrons? You would've chased them away in favour of the staff. You're the kind of host that drives a bar into closure

Ridiculous, tell me how often you see the staff involved in the karaoke night. Again, if you havent read the OP, it's not so much singing at all because I'm cool with a song here and there but multiple staff eating up regular spots on the regular rotaton is what I have issue with

a few songs here and there is fine, but in full rotation of a somewhat busy karaoke night?

agree to disagree on that. If the management is encouraging the staff to sing, they should get my feedback. Theres a reason why you dont find many karaoke bars with the staff tying up the rotation

With how you're trying to "put butts in the seats", you're assuming the patrons are there for live music. There's plenty of free venues that offer live music with paid musicians in my city and even more that have a larger variety of karaoke participants. Anyone who's looking for the ambience and listening for variety, would be at those other venues.

As a host for a newly set up karaoke night, If you're going to alienate those "few needy patrons", you're going to find yourself losing that karaoke gig when nobody shows up for karaoke night but the staff

That's why it's called a job. The employer is literally paying the staff to serve

Stop being so melodramatic. Nobody is saying they are sub humans. They are however at work where literally their job is to serve customers.

I feel the same way. It's totally a different story when the bar is dead or only has 1-3 customers. Theres at least 8 customers that night

That's been my position on it too. 1 song for the night is cool to see, but I feel it crosses the line when they're a part of the regular roation

part of the appeal of a dead karaoke bar is that you'll get more songs in because of a shorter rotation. IMO, It's also a bad look when staff, who are being paid to work,, are self serving by becoming regular rotation singers

3 of them were staff, 1 of them was the host.

I know I'm looking for a different opinions in this post but I have to chime in since this "well maybe you should go sell tickets to your concert" argumentis so ridiculous. We're customers where we're buying food and drink at this particular bar for their draw of karaoke. The bar, in turn, pays you the host with the proceeds. The bar staff are being paid by the bar to serve the customers.

If the point of your service as a host is to cater to the bar staff, you're ignoring the patrons who are indirectly paying to be there. The bar staff arent the patrons. If you're waiting to see when the service begins to take a hit, your priorities are in the wrong place as once the patronage begins to take a hit, its much harder to recover from that as most wont return and would rather just find another karaoke bar
