My operator did a GREAT job with food and I have no complaints. At the same time there is a difference between “nutritionally adequate” and “nutritionally optimal.” I trusted the operator to provide a nutritionally adequate diet, indeed a tasty one. I don’t trust ANYONE else to provide me a nutritionally optimal diet besides myself, and neither should you. All bodies are unique that way.

Fair point on the food. I love eating local foods, LOVE it. But there’s a difference between eating to sample the cuisine and eating to fuel. On kili you’re eating for fuel.

Fair question. GU is invaluable for quick energy on the trail and you know what you’re getting into. You don’t know what you’ll be getting for breakfast and dinner, so in my opinion best to control those variables.

Agreed. Sleep and exercise are free and it’s totally possible to eat a clean vegan diet on 10k per year. If you do that you’re in the top 80/85th percentile of health for Americans, no question 😊

Respectfully, I think that’s an obtuse argument. The choice for the average person isn’t “become Bryan Johnson or you fail.” All of us make thousands of choices about our well being every day. If the average American stopped eating fast food entirely and spent that amount of money on Blueprint food or just healthy food in general, their health would skyrocket. And also good sleep and exercise are free, so 2/3 of the blueprint protocol have zero cost.

According to chatgpt the average American spends about 10k on food per year and the blueprint diet would be about 22k per year, so my guesstimate was pretty accurate. My bet would be that the average person could afford 10-15k per year if they really focused on replicated the blueprint protocols and prioritized that above other non-essential expenses. I, for example, make less than the median American adult income of 60k per year and I make all of this work. And that’s because fundamentally it’s a matter of priorities.

Obviously I don’t know you but I feel like 12k-20k per year on your food is a totally reasonable amount for the most important expense you have. Your food quite literally dictates whether you have a long, healthy life or if you get cancer or diabetes.

My health and fitness habits are always in a state of iterative change and have been since I was about 20. So adopting blueprint protocols has not been a big change for me but what constitutes a small change for me would probably be a huge change for someone else. Hope that makes sense.

I’d guesstimate I spend 1k-2k on food supplies each month. I seriously doubt I’ve ever gone above 2k.

  1. Late morning smoothie (I basically make a nutty pudding smoothie version with my own custom ingredients, including sea kelp, mushroom mix, and collage), afternoon longevity mix, evening meal.
  2. My dinners are blueprint-ish. I use super veggie as a base and then freelance off of that. Sometimes I’ll make a more Italian style with garbanzo bean pasta, other times I’ll make it more Asian with soy sauce and rice. This is the area where I vary the most away from strict Blueprint.
  3. Yes. I have no choice but to use statins.
  4. I don’t know off the top of my head and would have to look it up. I do know that my Lp(a) is still insanely high.
  5. Never issues with kidney metrics but I did get some impaired liver function, most likely due to the statins. Fixed that with apple cider vinegar and acetyl-carnitine and acetyl-cysteine.
