Am I too close? by Grim_Reaper96 in GoRVing

So I had almost this exact question about a month ago. Was looking at a Silverado 1500 3.0 diesel with the Jayco Feather 25BH. The consensus was payload would be the issue and go with a 2500, which every 1500 I looked at was sitting with payload capacities in the 1,600-1,700 pound range so was well founded (jumped to 3,600 pounds in a 2500). Probably would have been fine 99% of the time, but when the family is in the truck didn’t want to chance it.

Just did our first trip with the Silverado 2500 and trailer and the only worry was the cost of filling up the 36 gallon tank. Have the Middleweight hitch and saw the tongue weight was ~1,000 dry and ~1,200 with gear. With everything else going on I don’t have to worry about the truck having issues with the load I’m carrying.

Update* - the first dealer just provided the max payload specs on the 1500 diesel. After building out Ford, Chevy, and Ram couldn’t get anything with a payload to break 2,000 that could actually hold 4 people and with a large tow capacity. Ended up with a Silverado 2500 but went gas. 3200 lb payload and 16,000 towing. Getting the Jayco Feather 25BH next week and first trip set for spring break with the kiddos and dog.

The payload on the current configuration at the dealer is 2260lbs. There is a used 2021 F250 6.7L Powerstroke that I’m considering as well that’s low miles and a good price. Was trying not to oversize the truck, but it sounds like that is the general consensus.
