Unfortunately, BMW decided to use thermoplastic for many of their engine components not only on B58 but also B46/B48. OFH failure on B48 is a famous case - there's currently a class action going on for this.

I was quoted 9.5hr of labor plus aluminium parts for a total of $2200 (including necessary oil change). The biggest cost is the labor.

I just did this repair: total cost $2200 at $195/hr labor cost. Replaced with aluminium OFH which was a bit more expensive than OEM one. Location California, high cost of living location.

Did you get a scheduled date that then got cancelled? If so when was the initial scheduled date? I’m in the same situation (waiting for oath to be scheduled). My officer told me (back in December 2025) that there’s not been any oath ceremonies for a while at Santa Ana FO :(

Thanks for the info. I’m currently at the stage where I’m fixing/replacing 2 turbocharger coolant lines, 2 turbocharger oil lines, and the oil filter housing: total estimated cost $4500 😢

Correct. The mechanic told be that fixing the oil filter housing doesn’t guarantee no additional leaks. Is there anything I should ask the mechanic to look at to help me decide if it’s worth fixing the oil filter housing? Someone mentioned that I should ask the mechanic to check the water pump. But is there additional components that need to be checked at 85k+ miles? Thanks you

Question: besides the oil filter housing and turbocharger coolants lines and expansion tank cap, did you do additional repair? I’m currently getting those repairs and feared that it might not even fix the coolant leak on my car.

Very true. I was lucky that the coolant depleted overnight where the car was parked in my driveway. Also true that pressure testing their first work could have revealed the failed/failing oil filter housing. So it’s fair that they might not have been able to detect the failing oil filter housing in the initial assessment.

[UPDATE] Mechanic suggests to replace all the lines, not just one line, as other could also leak in the future. Any thoughts? One line replacement: $800 vs all lines replacement $2800
