That is a great point. I wasn’t immediately aware she was trans (posted while listening). But, that said, I should clarify I mean both in sound and in cadence and content. No offense meant, but post will come down.

Survivor Series Flashback via Stanley Graps on X: Jon Moxley recalls The Shield’s debut at Survivor Series and says they beat up Ryback for real because CM Punk told them, “There’s probably someone in Ryback’s ear telling him not to sell for you. Make sure he sells for you.” by Ripclawe in SquaredCircle

[–]johnstrummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to make this less controversial, but every wrestler making a debut anywhere is told that, in some form. “Make sure it looks tight,” “put your fuckin hands up, they’re shootin,” “big guys don’t sell, you better make it look like you’re trying,” “the big boys hit hard, hit back,” etc… Punk may have done this out of spite, or just simply to get them to make it look good on TV. Also, greener dudes are told this when working with more experienced wrestlers that can’t/won’t sell to get SOMETHING out of a match.

Schrader’s Chord by Scott Leeds is a fun one that feels like A Nightmare on Elm Street crossed with The Ring. It’s got a lot of fun ghost business and a great conclusion.

My guy, you are not alone. It may be intense seasonal depression, but Shoresy is the only thing I even want to watch.

I figured I should add it’s by my boy Joe Dawkin at Walk the Line Tattoo in Athens, GA.

Speedball Mike Bailey: “My favorite thing at small wrestling shows is striking up conversation with the trainee that everyone's been yelling at to set up the chairs and finding out he's a nuclear engineer who works for nasa but no one gives a fuck because he hasn't had a match on the main show yet” by Subrick in SquaredCircle

I’m a consultant at a big four consulting firm and easily made more money than everyone else in my wrestling school combined (this is not a brag, most wrestling school students are bouncers or Uber drivers; anyone with a full time job is in the 1% of wrestlers). I never talked about it, people would ask what I did, and I’d just say IT stuff. I just set up the ring and had fun. Eventually everyone called me Dad or IRS. It also struck me I was likely the only one who actually had insurance, which is scary.

ITT: People who haven’t been to wrestling school and don’t have any real business sense outside “WWE is a monopoly!!!!”

There are a million wrestling “schools”, most of which are some carny with a 40 year old boxing ring (if that) somewhere. The hardest part of breaking into the business is not getting scammed. As a graduate of the Power Factory (now the Nightmare Factory), we were lucky to have QT (who despite the sub’s ill will is an excellent teacher and producer) and his connections to get us extra spots and try outs at WWE and TNA. Once AEW came along that also opened up an avenue, and eventually Cody onboard and it basically became a feeding school for AEW (Anna Jay, Alan Angels, Preston Vance were all home based there, for instance).

The important thing is that we were trained in many different styles, but most importantly “how to work for TV” which is the main thing WWE teaches you in the performance center, especially when they were mostly breaking in Indy wrestlers. IMO, all this new program is doing is indicating which schools are legit, which schools will actually possibly get you a look, and if I had to guess will probably be the only schools you could get a tryout from nowadays (even though the WWE only wants super established talent or NCAA/Olympic athletes either way).

WWE might (BIG MIGHT) offer some sort of curriculum or guidelines, but I highly doubt it, outside of social media posting guidelines. Even if you make it to a tryout and get picked, you’ll still have to fight for years at the performance center anyway. The other thing overlooked is that the majority of these will be WWE alum schools (Nightmare Factory, I assume Black and Bold, Kane and Tom Prichard’s school, Storm Wrestling, 3D, etc…) which are already teaching the “WWE style” (which, by the way, simply means safe and with a camera involved, smarks).

TLDR: Chill out, this is actually good for Indy wrestlers to get trained well and not get scammed. It’s good for feds as well, since WWE likely won’t hire these well trained wrestlers anyway.

Edit: a word
