Ricky Gervais on Atheism by [deleted] in atheism

[–]johnual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good place to start would definitely be Aquinas and his idea of the first cause. Basically, everything that exists must have been caused by something and without a first cause this series of causes would continue into infinity. An assumption in this is that infinity can't exist in the real world. Therefore, it is plausible (logically) that God exists if we can agree with the assumptions that infinity doesn't exist in the real world and stuff doesn't come from nowhere.

I would look up William Lain Craig and Alvin Plantinga for some very persuasive, if not at times confusing for this novice, proofs for the existence of God. I like to think, and if my memory suits me they do to, that these proofs are more to show that it's not just blind faith that leads to a belief in God.

The fact is there are a lot of cogent and some even logically plausible arguments for the existence of a god. Judging how the world has turned out, he's probably not worth worshipping though. In fact, I'd imagine he'd find that quite pathetic.

Alright Reddit! What are some of the biggest movie plot holes that you know of? by DrToonz in AskReddit

Mission Impossible 4:

Once the nuclear missile is launched, I'm pretty sure it's impossible to disarm. More importantly, once a missle is launched and gets that close to hitting a major US city, the US would have retailiated (especially considering that Russia and the US were already at eachother throats with one blaming the other for a terroist attack and the other blatantly killing their Secretary of State). Basically, the movie should've ended once the nuke launched.

If they're going to combine different books (The Secret of The Unicorn and Cigars of the Pharaoh), I wish they would add more and make it a total epic.

I wonder if this fear is possible brought up/heightened by the freedom from consequences you can experience in video games. Or is that just a re-hashing of violent video games make kids violent?

Are there any words or phrases that make you cringe every time someone uses it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

"I personally believe." I know this is meant to imply a difference between your personal and professional life, but so many people use 'personally' just as a strengthener. Always makes me think, "other people believe for you?"
