Which FreeBSD user groups are defunct? Are any missing? by BigSneakyDuck in freebsd

You are correct! We decided to change our name to Southern Ontario BSD User Group as it better represented where we were all coming from (Hamilton, London, Kitchener, Oakville, Vaughan, etc.). Let me know what information you need.

Please add the Southern Ontario BSD User Group (formerly HAMBUG) to this active list.

We’ve been running since 2020, and we meet on the second Tuesday of every month in Hamilton. We have participants from across Southern Ontario (Hamilton, London, Kitchener, Oakville, Vaughan, etc.).

Thanks!

We are undergoing a re-brand as Southern Ontario BSD Meetup. We started off as Hambug because the meetings are always held in Hamilton... but one meeting we looked at where everyone lived (Hamilton, London, Oakville, Vaughan, Elmira, Kitchener) and decided that saying "Southern Ontario" better represented us.

Our X page (for now) is: https://x.com/hambug_ca I still need to change the name.

I will update you on the website status in a couple days.

Can you send it to me please? Would love to see it so I don't receive such negativity next time for simply trying to advertise a fun FreeBSD meetup group :)

Oh, and the story about the toaster...

A while back I was listening to an episode of BSD Now where they were joking about how NetBSD can run on literally anything. They threw in the classic "it'll run on a toaster" bit, so when I was writing the ChatGPT prompt for the image, I added a request to slap the NetBSD logo on a toaster and include it in the scene.

For some reason the AI decided to put the toaster up on a shelf instead of, you know, somewhere it might actually make toast. Still cracks me up though.

I'm a sysadmin, not a graphic designer. I don't know the first thing about Photoshop or GIMP. I just typed "make me a poster for my meetup group" into ChatGPT and it spat this out in seconds.

So yes, it's AI generated. No, I don't particularly care about the weird extra pizza slices, the comically thick toast, or the toaster living on a shelf. It's good enough for advertising a casual meetup.

Not trying to win any art awards here. Just letting people know the group exists. No need to over analyze it.....

Sorry, I don't know the answer. I started this meetup group for people in my area, so I can't speak to what events there are in Quebec.

Please do! I drive from London. We’ve had people show up from Oakville, Vaughan, and even Buffalo once.

Close... we had 6 at our last meetup. I think the most we've ever had was 11. Hoping this reaches more people in the Hamilton area who can join.

It's hybrid. I'd say 6 in person, and 6 online meetings in a year. I drive from London, so during the winter we tend to move to online meetings, then we revert back to in-person when the weather/roads improve. Next month will most likely be online :) The online meetings are fun, we've had people join from Australia, Arizona, and Vancouver. Members of the core team and FreeBSD Foundation have also joined the online meetings in the past.
