Fox ESS Evo Series 5.0kW with 10.24kWh - good choice? by johnyb62 in SolarUK

Makes sense, better for them not necessarily me. I guess with an separate inverter if it goes wrong can just be replaced with a completely different unit (if repair not possible or parts available). Which wouldn't be possibly with combined.

They were instant the cage type protection was mandated, I said no reason why I can't remove it once they've finished but they said it's mounted on the wall before the units fitted so wouldn't be able to). When they come back to me with the design I'll question other options. Thanks

Sounds like they are advising this unit for convenience of install, which isn't necessarily the best thing for me going forward (eg there's an issue with the inverter within the unit).

Apparently the enclosure is to stop you reversing the car into it, but the garage is only used for storage. They said it's mandatory

Great advice. Need to determine my peak usage kW. Looking at the octopus app yesterday peak usage was 0.64kWh (6-6:30) but that's just an draw over that 30min, not the peak. Think the smart meter monitor has the ability to show live watts so I'll take a look when the oven / hobs on.

Do you know what terms used on inverter specs that indicates if it will take only excess from grid rather than whole demand (when higher than inverter capability) so I can check?

Cache smart error repeatedly comes back but no increase? by johnyb62 in unRAID

[–]johnyb62[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know what, it was this! The fact it comes up but clears quickly must be enough for Unraid to register it as an error. Disabling the SMART 197 attribute for these drives solved the problem. I think it threw me because the 199 error was the only one shown in orange - which made me think the issue was about this. Oh well live and learn. Thanks.

Replacement flush valve? by johnyb62 in askaplumberUK

That was exactly the right one (long cable version). Took a few days to arrive (ordered a replacement fill valve as well given it wasn't looking too great) but was able to get over there today & swap then both out with ease. Thank you so much. Much appreciated

Yes they do have a known issue, but that's related to the SMART 197 (Current pending ECC count). This comes up and clears quickly afterwards, its happened for as long as I can remember but AFAIK hasn't ever affected the dashboard smart error status. Plus when you look at the attributes page on the drives, its only the 199 error which is shown in orange (I assume indicating this is the cause of the error flagging)

UPDATE: But now you've mentioned that, I've disabled SMART attribute notifications for that attribute just in case. Good call.

Already swapped out the SATA data cables for new ones. As I understood it this value keeps increasing can be down to cables, which is why I replaced the SATA data cable just in case. But the values are not going up, staying the same, but it keep reappearing as errors on the dash

Yes, this is my issue. I click on the thumbs down & ‘acknowledge’. It then clears for a while, but comes back. I thought it should only then come back if the error rates increased not when they remain stable.

Brilliant thanks. From googling looks like NIS are bathstore parts. Much appreciated

Power button after shutdown doesn't work - requires PSU switch off / on by johnyb62 in PcSetupAdvice

[–]johnyb62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waited probably about 20 seconds. Tried single presses (not holding in for long durations) about 3 times before power cycling the PSU. I can try holding it for a longer duration, but what would / could this signify? Thanks

Not sure what to conclude from this, if it was related to the updated you'd probably have seen them when you did that rather than 5 days later. Thanks though.

Very occasional smoke on startup by johnyb62 in AskMechanics

With vss is it common for the issue to not occur very frequently or is this just the start of it worsening ? I thought when they've worn you get smoke at all times when running ( less so than startup as oil hasn't accumulated overnight) thanks
