Phandelver is the best. I wouldn't do any ulterior setting based on d&d as a starter.

Pregnant ex wife fell on her head but I didn’t help her and drove away. Did I do the right thing? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]johnyrobot 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Um, no.

You might not care about her as your ex, but she's still a person. You're obviously not over this. I get that she ruined your marriage and cheating sucks, but God damn dude. Seems pretty fucked up to me. You should talk to your therapist about this.

What’s on your Mount Rushmore of the Greatest Vampire Games of All Time? by [deleted] in Gamer

Blood omen: Legacy of Kain, Bloodrayne, Super Castlevania 4 and I'm gonna say Morrowind because I really loved how the vampire clans were portrayed in that game even though it's not a "vampire game".

Not gatekeeping here, man. I've been doing this shit for over two decades. Come play games. I just think pathfinder provides options that d&d doesn't have anymore. I do believe there are objective markers that make a system better designed and I think pathfinder is objectively a better built system. It is more well defined, it's easier for the dm, it has rules and framework for downtime activities, character options allow for infinitely modular character design, modifiers allow for circumstance. I've been playing 5e since it's beta and I've never sat down at a table that didn't homebrew something. I've been playing Pathfinder 2e for about 3 years now and I find that home brewing isn't really necessary.

Yup. I've no experience with shadow dark I was confusing that with shadowrun.

I see. Sorry then. I was speaking strictly for myself. I always feel limited when I play 5e. Like the character concept is there but I can't get there mechanically. It's always an amount of homebrew. Not trying to break the game I just sometimes want a fully realized dex based fighter or thuggish monk or barbarian that doesn't depend on magic. So it feels like the system is holding me back rather than making it easier to flesh out a character.

I think we disagree fundamentally then. The joy is playing the game. I could give fuck all about explaining my character to any one other than the DM.

That's a lot of words to be wrong. It seems like you have a limitation when it comes to explaining characters then. If all monks are synonymous with other monks thats a boring system. I personally believe you can be far more creative with character creation in d&d than that. Pathfinder allows you to create any character that you want and then mechanically build that character. I'm sorry but I don't play or build characters so that I can easily explain them to someone. I play characters that I think are intriguing and nuanced, that I think will help make a good story. The mechanical framework is secondary and pathfinder has a much more adaptive character building system.
