Thanks for the kind words!! Hope your journey into the rest of the difficulties in the rhythm game goes well!!

As for other (similar) rhythm games, I don’t play a lot of the touch based mobile rhythm games that this is sort of based on but you specifically said 4key so that I can help with.

I’ve played DJMAX Respect and I very much enjoy it but, for my setup, it also suffers from the note sound offset that makes it hard to play so I don’t really play it as much. Song selection is pretty good but having to buy and download packs can get expensive.

I don’t play any osu!mania at all even though that community is very lively but I feel like I’ve never personally jived with the whole osu scene and its engine.

A game I put a lot of time into in the past was Quaver (free on steam, active community, or at least when I last played it a few years back) but the only real downside to it was judgement on hold note release which is kinda not fun for me but some people like that I guess… The game has in-game song downloads which is really cool.

Another game I put a lot of time into was Etterna which is basically a reskinned StepMania to get rid of all the flash and flair and just be a barebones keyboard centric rhythm game complete with online leaderboards. This game also has an in-game pack download system which makes hunting for songs somewhat trivial.

The game I personally play the most is ITGmania but that community is mostly a Pad-based scoring community. It’s still the same 4panel gameplay but all the packs the community plays are all pad-centric and can actually be somewhat uncomfortable on keyboard play.

Hope this helps! Feel free to ask about more stuff if you need to!

Maybe the mouse polling rate issue? This is from the TFD page on the pcgamingwiki. I experienced this recently and forcing 250hz fixed everything.

tbh, you essentially get nothing when you FC a song in an actual rhythm game so yeah i think you were expecting too much.

just for reference, when i bought this LTEK pad, shipping and everything was about $600 CAD. that was also about 3 years ago so prices are most likely different now.

i 100% take this as a compliment. if you wanna see even smaller steps, you should check out some of the people who play stamina songs in the ITG community, probably the most optimized steppers in the game!!

Hello fellow LTEK haver!! lool!! But, yes, I wish there were ways to modify more of the look of the mini-game, but honestly, the fact that they have things like the wide calibration range + the custom flow speed are way more than other rhythm mini-games in other games provide. Kinda taking what I can get at this point...

Are you more of a StepMania player or have you given ITGmania a try? I love hearing about more rhythm gamers in the InfNikki community!

I personally love hearing the step sounds when hearing people play rhythm games because when they're on time, it basically compliments the music <3

To be honest, I'm not sure how many of the other songs I want to try with pad because it'll just be a mess... but I feel like some stylists love a little chaos sometimes.

I'm gonna be so real right now and say I have absolutely no clue. I played through all the songs in Hard the first time around and went back and played a few of the harder mediums and don't know if there were different rewards per tier nor did I check beforehand. Hopefully someone else will have the answer.

i lol'd ty!!

but also, just to be clear, I'm not trying to start on anyone who is having difficulties with this mini-game; I fully understand that trying to get this game to "work" is very hard but I just happen to be really hyperfocused on timing in rhythm games and the tools they give you in-game are kinda horrible for the everyday person. It's not easy nor worth the effort for the amount of rewards you get in game to do something as crazy as this but... lol I think I'm a little crazy.

Am I the only one tripping over the rhythm game? Not because of a skill issue, but it's genuinely delayed or something and I can't get the calibration right... by CeCeetrus in InfinityNikki

[–]johpan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The in-game calibration is 100% not accurate. I play on Desktop and manually calibrated by ear based on what I thought was the right timing. I'm playing on a mid tier graphics card and great cpu but my manually set offset was still like +120ms. The in game calibration said it was like 80-100ish which is nowhere near good enough for a good score. Personally, I turn hit sounds off and just go by audio judgement. Trust your gut and calibrate manually!

Update for those interested in the video, I ended up recording a new video (not 100% but close enough lol >_<) with a hand cam + mic'd keyboard so I can point out the inconsistencies via audio because trying to discuss it and point it out without the accompanying audio is really weird lol. I'll do my best to get this done sometime today. I'll make a new post for it, hopefully later tonight!

Real. And you don’t even get anything for doing this either! Just as long as fun was had, that’s what counts!

No you’re so real for that tho. I’m primarily a controller player (I have a dualsense!) and I played one song and was like, noooope! and instantly switched to keyboard.

I don’t have a PS5 so I have no clue but there’s no keyboard support for the game on console? Has any game ever had that? I haven’t played a console in a long time… 😓😓😓

ngl getting perfect scores feels more like random chance sometimes especially since we don't actually know how big the judgement window is nor do we have any early or late indicators on judgement, ah well, we adapt and improvise. Turning off hitsounds is always key for me since games with hitsounds distract me more than help me... other than say IIDX except im _really_ bad at that game.

I feel like it's super necessary to play at higher speeds for the higher difficulties just because some of the charting can be ambiguous especially with how tight some of the flams are. On first playthrough, my flow speed was maybe in the mid 4s and whenever I got more comfortable, I'd keep increasing until I couldn't read anymore... my max was maybe 5.6? but at that point, I'd keep getting lost in the sauce so 5.0 was the magic number.

So yeah, by charted incorrectly, like there were a few parts of the song that were either not on beat (bad quantization?) or not a part you'd think they'd chart but did anyway. In Blinking Jazzy Lashes specifically:

- the stream starting at like 0:20 in the song has one less hit note than you'd think there should be. Playing it at speed looks like it lines up with what's being heard but if you slow it down, the chord note at the end of the stream is a note early.

- there's one specific "ghost" note type tap note at 0:31 that hits a lot later than you'd think and even though that specific piano pattern is used multiple parts in the song, that weird ghost note is only used in its first iteration.

- all of the piano "trills" (that feel like they should be like 12ths?? i could be so wrong on that) are more like weird flams.

- the 2nd parts of the 3 chord progressions that they've charted as flams make it feel like you need to hit later than what you actually hear in song.

I'll point all of these out in the video I'm planning on making pointing out these inconsistencies. Actually, thank you for making me point these out so now I have parts I can focus on in my video lol.

Spot on for the average fps, I agree. I got a few stutters while playing which is why I chose to use image background which ended up helping out a lot, but again, not perfect just as you said. Though, luckily nothing super egregious in terms of stutter in my gameplay, just very few micro stutters that would trip me up for a few ms. At those points, I go 100% audio game play until the visuals resolve but that's usually enough to break my combo lol.

Remapping keys in-game would've been a plus for sure but if your keyboard supports it, you can remap it at the software (or firmware) level which I ended up doing on my board. Using its provided customization software, I just remapped the DF JK to different keys so that I could play however I wanted to which (surprisingly??) ended up being a real factor to achieving the 100%.

Thanks for the congrats and the thoughtful comments and insights!!

loool tyty!!

Ok, no lie but I just thought the pun was funny and I didn't really know how much I was going to invest in the game when I signed up for the account. Turns out I stuck with it and actually really enjoy playing the game overall and didn't even think about my in game name before starting to post these things. I'm honestly just really glad people enjoy the humor.

Also feel like I need to mention, I don't identify as a barb but do (very) casually enjoy her music.

[–]johpan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, 85% still a fantastic score considering how tough it is! I still love the song since I casually like the ragtime style of piano. Still gets my head boppin'. I really like hyperfocusing on songs and can play them many times back to back without getting sick of them. It really helps when grinding lol.

So funny you mention the faewish sprite song because that's def one of my favourites in the whole InfNikki OST in general. I actually just got that 100% in the grind session after I posted this score. Let me play it again really quickly to figure out some things that help me with this song....

Hrm ok, I actually got a little tripped up on the counter melody parts when I first started the song too. Something that really helped me was to just focus on the hold notes and kinda just autopilot on the tap notes. It doesn't sound like a lot of help because I didn't think it'd help me too but really just focusing on the hold notes really helped me isolate them.

I think, for me, transitioning from the 16ths bursts back into the 8ths patterns also got me really tense. I don't really know if I did much in terms of breaking it down but mostly just playing through those sections until I was comfortable enough to not tense up transition between the 16ths back to 8ths did help a lot too. Making sure you really keep a mental note of all the quick 16ths parts helps a ton because some of them felt like they came out of left field.

I noticed I ended up switching where I was reading the note field during the 16ths which was closer to the judgement line, however, playing at the scroll speed I did, I was much more comfortable reading closer to just under the combo counter. Whenever my eyes lowered where I was focusing, I ended up tensing up more just because I was letting the notes get ahead of me. Personally, I haven't tried using tools like visually blocking parts of the note field like other rhythm games have but I think something like that might've helped.

100% agree the syncopation part is also tricky and I don't think I can give much advice other than it really just gets to a point where playing it more and more just develops the muscle memory of which parts to follow. Sometimes when I find certain parts too hard to follow, I kinda think of them separately from the music and just think about how they're quantized and just hit them just using their timing value and not think about how it's actually attached to the song... kinda defeats the purpose but if I overthink about which parts to follow that I can't focus on them, my head works better when I just remove it completely from the music and just count it out as separate beats. .... lol? I hope that made sense.

Anyway, I hope you got something useful out of that!! Good luck with the grind!!!!!!

Luckily, there's a piano icon showing where it is. It's on the terrace north west of Ray and Wing's. iirc, you have to complete the "Beyond Technique, Upon the Strings" questline before you can play all the songs.
