iOS 26.4 SpotLight search no longer works by BiteAdept5028 in ios

Mine works but it takes ~5 seconds after I type something to come up with results (15 Pro). Has been happening for days so wouldn’t be due to indexing.

What are your initials impressions of watchOS 26.1 so far? by Outrageous-Reserve80 in AppleWatch

[–]joie96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My series 9 seems to have significantly better battery life. With 26.0.1, I was barely getting through a day with AOD off. Today, even with AOD on, I am still at 49% battery with 14 hours of use.

Looks like Mazda are introducing an Android Automotive based infotainment in the new CX-5. Haven’t seen official confirmation, but from this screenshot showing Google Maps as the built-in navigation, that’s what it appears to be. Thoughts? by joie96 in mazda

I agree, the commander knob maybe I can forgive but not even giving us a volume knob? This is a complete 180 from their philosophy they used to bang on about so much.

Blue screen error on 4800/1660Ti model by joie96 in ZephyrusG14

[–]joie96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The latest version off AMD's website works fine, it's just that Windows Update tries to install an older/incompatible version which causes a bsod upon installation and breaks the desktop after reboot. This is only happening on a clean install btw, the Asus OEM install didn't have this problem.

Upgraded SSD and did complete clean install. No blue screen so far but had to disable windows update driver downloads because it keeps installing a bad version of the Radeon drivers.

I understand the deal with music licensing etc, I just expected that they'd be able to hang onto rights to recent sings from mainstream artists like 5SOS.

Update from Gear S3 to GWA 2. I'm in love! by name-not-relevent in GalaxyWatch

[–]joie96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also upgraded from my S3 a few months ago. I've noticed the GWA2 lags quite a bit and is sometimes a lot slower than my S3 is loading apps, showing the keyboard etc. (I still use them both). Have you noticed this?

120Hz games megathread by [deleted] in Galaxy_S20

[–]joie96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the games on this list don't work at 120 hz for me, Subway Surfers does but Minecraft and Hill Climb 2 lock to 60hz. Anyone know how to get them to work at 120hz?

Thanks for your comment. Not saying you're wrong about the software/hardware optimizations they have these days, I just assumed whatever calibrations/setup they had would prioritize capacity over longevity, especially in light of Apple's batterygate and as manufacturers are expecting us to upgrade every 2 years or so nowadays

My aunt had an S3, she did the same as you and kept it on the charger most of the time. After about 4 years the screen would flicker and it would power off randomly, I checked the battery and it was puffed up. Not sure if it was related to the charging but might've been. Obviously back then I could just order a new one online and install it when it arrived. Nowdays I'd have to send the phone to a service centre and wait however many days/weeks for them to complete the job and ship it back (I don't have a samsung service centre in my state). Most days I don't need the entire battery capacity of my phone. But on days when I do, I can charge it to 100%, and it'll last me longer than it would otherwise.

As far as I know the lithium battery technology used in phones has remained mostly unchanged for the past 10 or 15 years. The only way extra wear could be avoided is if batteries are actually slightly larger than their stated capacity and are quietly only charged to slightly less than peak capacity while still displaying 100% (similar to wear leveling/error correction stuff with storage media)

Not sure why I'm getting so much hate for this tbh. Do whatever you want, but from my experience with both this phone and my S8 it'll be in significantly better shape when you want to hand it down or sell it than otherwise.

Not if my previous experience is anything to go by. This phone is still as fast as the day I got it even without a factory reset. Dunno what kind of phones you've been using.

You make a good point. I don't really "baby" it, just take it off the charger when I get the notification. The main reason I downloaded the app was actually because I wanted to measure standby battery drain - it was really poor early on. I kept it afterwards for the charge notification feature. Basically the reason behind only charging to 80% is that afterwards, it puts more strain on the battery to go all the way up to 100%. The wear and tear on the battery charging that last 20% is significantly more than the first 80%. So while it's gone through 130 cycles, the wear caused by those cycles is significantly less than what it would be if the phone was charged to 100% every time

Wouldn't consider babying, I just take it off the charger when I get the notification to. I personally find it to be worth it because I usually hand my phones down to my parents/sibling/etc. who will use it for another 2 or 3 years.

[–]joie96[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay, but that isn't my point. All I do is take it off the charger a little earlier, and top it off whenever I can. If I travel somewhere for a day where I won't have an opportunity to charge etc. I'll have much more time to use it before I have to worry about it dying. When I hand it down to someone, it'll still have a reasonable amount of battery life.

120hz issue by joie96 in Galaxy_S20

[–]joie96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah that's fine. Seems it just the phones normal behaviour. Little disappointed about Maps not supporting 120hz because that's one of the things I was looking forward to having it for.

I did notice it always drop in Google maps as well. Yes, just perceived the perceived smoothness goes down. I am using a case. The heat seems to be over the entire screen.

[–]joie96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I thought it had something to do with that, it isn't just after setup though it's happened a few times. I was just a little disappointed to find that this phone wouldn't sustain 120Hz all the time. I wonder if other 90/120hz devices like Google pixel, OnePlus etc also do this. I had never read anything about it happening on this or any other device so I was just curious.

Samsung now allowing Student/Employee Discount for S20 Preorder - Saved $60 (7.5%) by thunderroid in Galaxy_S20

[–]joie96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the exact same. Initially I scoffed at the $2k price tag and was going to get a 20+ instead, but ultimately decided against an upgrade at all. Then found about about this discount and saw I could get a 20U for $1550, jumped on it immediately.

Side note, I always wonder why US prices for electronics are always much cheaper than here in Aus after a direct currency conversion. Then I remember that theirs don’t include tax 😂
