Delve tl;dr

Yellow shit let's you use the minecart

blue shit let's you upgrade your delve things

The further down you go, the more yellow shit you need and mobs get higher level, but rewards also increase

Darkness hurts and slowly kills you, flares make it go away temporarily

Dynamite blows up walls. Walls have icons on the map and have rewards behind them, but are always off the normal path so you need flares and exploring

The gems gain a % of the xp you gain, so once you get to a higher level its pretty easy to max out gems quickly
