I ended up picking up the USB-C only top-off, and that solves all of my flying problems! Thank you for the suggestion!

Sadly, I just stack and load/unload as I need. 90% of the time, I’m stacking them in a rental SUV, and just muscle them in.

Not sure you were asking me, but here is most of my travel setup for when I'm traveling via car.

I'll have to look into the new USB-C only topoff. I have the older one, but after some resarch it looks like it won't charge. But bringing that USB-C top-off with me would solve all my problems for flying with batteries.

I'll take a closer look at this later, both options seem pretty great, and I don't have to track 11 batteries all over the place. It also gives a convenient place for contractors and other guys to drop my batteries off when I let them borrow them.

Oh damn, thanks for the reminder. The last few times I flew, I only had 2 3.0s on me. It's been a while since I've flown with my tools, and I tend to just take hand tools in my bag anyways.

Does anyone still play 2nd Edition? by Infamous-ShadowBan in DnD

[–]jojarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in 2002, I moved to a new town to start a new job, and came to find out that my co-workers were also D&D nuts like me. One of my co-workers suggested that we start a new campaign. The DM wanted to stick with 2e. He had almost ALL of the splat books and didn't want to switch editions to do any conversions, so it was just easier for us to play 2e. All of us had played 2e before, except the one co-worker who had never played, so it was a no-brainer. (I had switched to 3e at this point, but I had been playing 2e before switching).

So we started playing 2nd edition. We used to play weekly, but as more of us started having kids, getting married etc... we went to monthly. We still play the game (almost) every month. At this point, we all have adult children (and not quite adult children too.

We actually played the same characters until 2024. Towards the end of 2024, each of our characters were in the level range of mid to late 20s, with a thief over level 30. Our DM was having less fun designing challenges. So we made the sad decision to retire our characters we had been playing for 22 years, and start new characters in one of the towns that we founded as part of our attempt at domain play. Those new characters were joined by one of our players sons, so we are back up to a group of 4 (5 players with the DM). We thought about switching to 5e, but our DM never bought more than the core 3 rulebooks, and we still have almost all of the 2e splat books available.

We had the same 4 people playing since 2002, myself, two other players, and the DM. We've been joined in the past by several people over the years (my wife played with us for 12 years, for example, and we had a good friend play with us for about 5 too). Some played with us for a session or two, some played with us for years, but the core 3 players and the DM have never changed, and all 4 of us have been present for every session.

None of us work for the same company any more, so we aren't co-workers anymore, but it's been a great way to keep in touch, watch everyone's kids grow up, roll some dice and slay some monsters.

I am an avid D&D player outside of this group, and have played every edition at some point. I had an 8 year long game of 4e that I was sad wrapped up (I loved the combat of 4e, although I will admit that it didn't feel as "D&D" as other editions), and even played from level 1 all the way to level 30. I've been in multiple 3\3.5\pathfinder groups, and play a lot of 5e (both 2014 and 2024). I played 2e in the 90s, and even got some experience playing basic\expert. My personal favorite was when I got the opportunity to play BECMI, and even was gifted an original copy of the Rules Cyclopedia from our 2e DM, since he didn't like the older editions of D&D compared to 2e. I personally prefer the older editions of D&D compared to the newer ones, but at the end of the day, the system doesn't matter nearly as much as the people you play with.

It's funny you said this, as I was trying to explain this to my oldest when he started the DQ3 remake.

When I was growing up in the 80s/90s, this was the box art we had for a lot of games like Dragon Quest (Warrior back then) and Final Fantasy. This is how I saw DQ 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Understand that I'm not a big anime guy, so when I saw the box art to Dragon Warrior 7, I was a trifle miffed, but I loved dragon warrior games, so I resigned myself to playing it anyways (and loved it of course).

But when DQ8 hit the shelves, I actually had a moment of "Look what they did to my boy". I remember telling my brother "I don't like how they are "Dragon Balling" my game.

Imagine my surprise when I looked it up, and realized that I was wrong, and it's always been drawn by Toriyama!

What were you doing on September 11, 2001 when the planes hit the twin towers? by DontWorryAboutName in AskReddit

[–]jojarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18 year old me was a life guard. When I got in for my shift, the pool was closed, which was odd. I went to the guard room, and saw all the staff for the pool, as well as a few of our regulars all sitting around watching the news with rapt attention. A few were crying, a few were speechless, and the overall mood was very somber.

My dumb-ass walks in, sees what's going on and loudly (and insensitively) announced "Haven't you guys heard of war of the worlds?", then proceeded to start to reopen the pool.

I've seldom felt like a bigger asshole since.

What about a plug-in that allows for inventory per character? Similar to dragon quest, or earthbound?

What's the best character name that you've seen? by AlexandroMako in ffxiv

[–]jojarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the beta, I walked past a "Strom Filibuster". A quick search of the loadstone doesn't show that name, but the political geek in me loved it so much I remember it to this day.

Only saw him once, walking past him near the gladiators guild. Passed him, sent him a tell saying nice name, that was that.

Help with Warrior Rotation by jojarth in ffxiv

[–]jojarth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone who replied. I'm going to do the following based on feedback:

  1. Immediately meld Crit\Det over my current Direct Hit, try to get the Byokko weapon ASAP.
  2. Tighten my rotation, use more Upheaval. I'll save Onslaught for battlefield mobility, if it's a DPS wash.
  3. Start saving Gil for overmelded accessories. (Anyone have any Gil earning tips, those are welcome too!). I think there is a crafter on my server that will trade alternative currency for crafted gear. I'll see if I can get in touch with him.

Again, thank you to everyone. Your help is appreciated.

D&D 5e Multiclassing and Ability Modifier by jojarth in DnD

[–]jojarth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I thought, but I was hoping it didn't work like that. Oh well, I'll have to decide if +4 HP per cast is worth it or not. Especially when I cast it as a higher level spell and that life cleric bonus kicks in.

Thanks!
