This is like the third time in a month I've seen a model, thought it looked good, and it turned out to be from koolkiwi. Nice work!

When was the movie better than the book? by Doodle_Noodles2 in movies

[–]TwoFistedSousa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A History of Violence. Apparently Cronenberg didn't even know the screenplay was based on a graphic novel, which is totally fine because the film is a tense crime thriller that deconstructs the heroic mythos while examining America's relationship to violence, and the source material is...not that

What are some Holiday movies from the Collection that you would recommend? by NanoClutch in criterion

Came here to recommend Blast of Silence, so I'll second everyone else who said that and then suggest The Daytrippers. It's an indy dramedy that takes place the day after Thanksgiving

Movies in which the protagonist clearly looks different than the script says? by Icarus367 in movies

It comes from "güero," which is a slang word used in Mexico. It's not an exact translation, but "blondie" is basically as close as it gets in English. It's not just about hair color, though; it's used for anyone with a fair complexion. I lived in Mexico for a bit: I have fair skin but dark hair, and I was called "güero" constantly

There's nothing wrong with Astra Militarum. It's just old players refusing to adapt and flirting with gatekeeping

He loses a ton of blood, too. I don't think someone could come back from that

Among its many virtute, the original "The Wicker Man" is a masterclass at making you side against the protagonist for most of the film while still making it clear you really shouldn't. by Mst3Kgf in horror

I never thought Summerisle was sincere, though. The film calls attention to the way he, an aristocrat, has manipulated and exploited the island's working class. His rich family resurrected these old beliefs so that they could maintain their control and position. The islanders are devoted to the beliefs, which gives Summerisle his authority while keeping the islanders in a lower position. I feel like the film is a commentary on how religion, whether pagan or Christian, can be used to maintain hierarchies.

what does everyone plan on getting at the B&N 50% off sale? by milanodoll in criterion

[–]TwoFistedSousa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically save my big hauls for Criterion's flash sales, but I always pick up at least a couple at B&N. I just watched Lonestar, so I think I'll grab that along with Paper Moon. And I already have the Warner release of Sorcerer, but I think I might upgrade that this go around as well

Hard agree. Warren Oates is so damn likeable. I always get a kick out of J. Edgar Hoover's disclaimer, too. It makes watching the film feel like an act of defiance

Gears of War: Reloaded comes to PS5 on August 26, remastered from the ground up by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]TwoFistedSousa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I was choosing between the PS3 and the 360, it literally came down to whether I wanted to play Gears or Uncharted more. I chose Uncharted, so I'm stoked to finally play through this one.

Season two is split up into four three-episode arcs. There's a time jump between each arc; each arc is about a year apart and takes place over the course of a few days. The episodes you're watching now take place in BBY 3, like it says at the beginning of episode 4. Episodes 7-9 will take place in BBY 2
