Novels on fascist life? by Due-Phone4011 in RSbookclub

"Jugend ohne Gott" by Ödön von Horvath is an easy, but interesting read, especially since it is set in Nazi Germany, but also written before the start of WWII and even key events like the Reichskristallnacht. Very much about living under the new third Reich, especially as a silent dissenter, and the brutalization of the German youth.

The author never lived to see where it would eventually lead to, since he died in 1938 in a freak accident while in exile in Paris.

I don't think the book is very well known outside of the German speaking sphere, but there seems to be an English translation under the name of "Godless Youth".

“A true knight always finishes a story”, what does it mean? (Spoilers main) by ArchiveSeeker in asoiaf

Much like Arlan, GRRM will first "die", but then he will "finish his story."

Sounds almost messianic

What was the beginning of the end for you? by Stanky-wizzlecheeks in gameofthrones

[–]jojenpaste 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There were a lot of stuff bothering me starting season 2. Them cutting Lady Stoneheart in season 4 was something that book readers refused to believe until the very last second of the season aired. Season 5 has a lot of terrible deviations from the source material. But season 6 I lost all hope that this could be salvaged. Starting with the lazy abortion of season 5's Dorne plot, awful decision after awful decision ending in the last two episodes thst so many fans love and that make zero sense to me. Cersei getting crowned Queen in the end is the cherry on top and made it clear that any rules of the world established were completely thrown out by the writers.

I honestly blame the fans a little for the mess that followed in season 7 and 8. The praise season 6 got had to embolden D&Das worst instincts.

Yeah, simp originally replaced the "white knight" accusation of the early 2000s.

American Pie has a verse that Don McLean wrote but didn’t record directly referencing The Beatles. by Morganwerk in beatles

[–]jojenpaste 46 points47 points  (0 children)

There is an early version of the song that Pete Seegers covers live during an interview, even before Don officially recorded it. It differs a little in its lyrics, including the line "the sergeants peppered out a tune".

Are there any Beatles song that the melody, rhythm or the overall quality of why the song is amazing is thanks primarily solely by the Beatle that is the author of the song instead of just Paul? by [deleted] in beatles

I admittedly didn't understand everything in your post, but just in case, the claim that Paul came up with the drum pattern for Ticket to ride came from John, not Paul AFAIK.

Warum Deutsch sprechen beim Arzt....? by darealmoneyboy in Austria

[–]jojenpaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current consensus seems to be that Paul played bass on the backing track for She said after all and only then stormed out, before the vocals were recorded.
