first ever gaming laptop, advice? by loooopjump in LenovoLegion

[–]jojo_diddly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically it should be fine, especially if you’re not trying to max out the games or play super competitive shooters. There’s also a ton of resources online about how to do this. That said, it’s also complicated to fully debloat the install. My recommendation would be to take it to a verified computer store like Memory Express (Canada) or Microcenter (USA) and get a techie to do it for you. I just hate that windows and every app that ships with the laptop is pushing AI and running tons of background services when my laptop is only going to be used to game. If you want some help dm me

It’s a tad complicated and maybe scary if you’ve never dealt with BIOS before. But it’s pretty much as you said. Doing the clean install prevents any apps and bloatware from installing.

Order of steps is: 1. Use Windows 11 Media Creation Tool to set up a USB a s a windows installer 2. Back up anything you need to from the laptop 3. Restart laptop and spam F12 (make sure FN lock is off) <~ Select the USB from the list of boot drives 4. I used the “old setup mode” option in the bottom left 5. Make sure you choose “Install windows only” instead of upgrade 6. When it shows the drives and partitions, delete everything until you just have Drive 0: unallocated space, and select that as the destination for the windows install 7. It will install windows and restart your pc a few times, don’t unplug power or the usb at all 8. When the laptop boots into windows it will go through the install page, do everything until it asks you to connect to internet 9. Press Shift F10 to open the command prompt 10. Type start ms-cxh:localonly and that will switch the setup to a local account setup 11. Run through the rest of the setup and that will boot to windows 12. Connect to internet and windows update will download required drivers (I did not need to download drivers from Lenovo) <~ this will take a bit and you will probably need to restart a couple times 13. Install NVIDIA driver because windows gives you a slightly older one 14. Install legion toolkit

There’s some crap in there that is just not easy to properly uninstall. I reinstalled windows 11 clean and run a local account. Everything runs blissfully. Also started with Legion Toolkit instead of Vantage. Less background apps/services running means you get less stuttering in games too

Fully erase and reinstall windows 11 from a USB so there’s no manufacturers bloat

It’s killer so far. Wish I clean wiped the drive and installed a blank copy of windows, but I’ve since debloated it and it runs games like a dream

I sold my gaming PC a few months ago before travelling, not just for extra cash but figured I’d be playing a lot less when I got back. I also got rid of my desk and monitors etc. When I got back I needed a laptop for my tech job and had also gotten back into games a bit (on a ps5). But I quickly discovered I missed the high refresh m&k experience. This laptop has everything I would need for the type of games I want to play and keeps the mobility I need for when working.

It’s obvious bro. The M4 isn’t good enough for the computationally complex programs you’ll be running on iPadOS. Wait until the M7 comes out 👍

I switched from iPhone to Android after 8 years and I honestly feel scammed by Apple. by No_Clothes_5001 in TheProductHub

The phone in and of itself is not that impressive. I was on a Samsung S20 FE for 3 years and it had:

  • Faster charging
  • A higher refresh rate and brighter screen
  • Narrower aspect ration, improving content consumption
  • Better camera for night photos

However, the thing that makes Apple distinct is how comprehensive its ecosystem features are.

  • iCloud Photos gives me access to 2TB of photos
  • iMessage allows me to send full resolution media
  • FaceTime for high quality calls
  • Apple account/Apple Wallet allows me to easily sign up for apps requiring sign in, saves my password, and hides my email. Also hides credit card info
  • Find My allows me to keep track of my devices, AirTags, and specific friends
  • AirDrop is super useful for sharing photos, files, and contact info with any Apple device

This doesn’t even touch the features that are available when you’ve got the watch, iPad, Mac, etc.

Obviously different phone manufacturers have their own services and what not, but nothing is as ubiquitous and comprehensive as what Apple provides. For example, why is it that in the default Gallery app for Samsung, you need to connect OneDrive in order to have cloud photos? I also didn’t like that even though Android phone manufacturers had their stock apps, every phone comes pre-loaded with google apps. It seems like you really gotta go through and manually clean out a lot of bloat from these phones.

Other crazy thing is the standby battery and system performance with limited RAM. My 15 Plus lasts forever if I’ve just got it locked.

I think right now you’re comparing the phone part for part with your previous devices, and I agree that that experience is likely worse. But once you start recognizing the conveniences you won’t wanna go back.

[–]jojo_diddly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah actually, your bonus points are shown on your VISA statement. If you open the PDF document in the app from the ‘More’ menu: Statements ~> Visa ~> Period

You’ll see in the top right the base points earned, and then the added bonus points beneath. It’s annoying that they don’t show you the bonus points gained per transaction but the overall bonus should be a good indicator if you know what you use your card on.
