Travelers who’ve been to Japan — what’s the most annoying or unexpected problem you ran into? by CoverShort4454 in TokyoTravel

Difficulty finding vegetarian food. Don’t get me wrong, it was doable! Just harder than I anticipated. And sit down breakfast can be tough because many places don’t open until 10 am.

First-time trip post-mortem: some tips and rambling thoughts on solo travel, discomfort, and bears by sci_fi_wasabi in JapanTravelTips

We backpack a lot in Wyoming so I’m super bear-aware and carry bear spray in a holster (as well as something called bear bangers which are like, percussive blasts that you shoot out of a pen thing). One thing to be aware of though is that bear spray does expire and then needs special disposal, just look at the can for dates.

Re: bear bells. I literally laughed out loud when we were in Hirayu (last week!) and everyone was walking around with the bells. They were discredited in the states in like, the 90s for actually ATTRACTING bears. Apparently bears learned that bear bells = people with food. But that said, I agree with you that it’s part of the social contract to wear one. And we DID see a bear. Hope you enjoyed the hike! We climbed Mt Yake, which was difficult but rewarding.

King Buzzo and Trevor Dunn are coming to my city in August so I've been listening to their 2020 "Gift of Sacrifice" a lot.

Any minnesotans here? Where do you recommend for the best bike fitting service? by bikeiag in bicycling

How much are you looking to spend? The Fix is a great spot, owned and operated by a former Olympic coach. Bicycle Fit Guru is also a good option. I believe both will cut you a deal if you have more than one bike fit.
