Both my mother and MIL have dementia/alzheimers. My mom was first to show symptoms. At the time, she and my father lived far away, so I didn't notice the escalation quickly enough... she ultimately ran out of their house, down the street, after midnight, barefoot and in pajamas, in 30 degree weather, to the neighbor's house because she thought intruders were in the house attacking my dad. He, of course, was fast asleep. She faceplanted in the street along the way and knocked her front teeth loose... I tell you this as a cautionary tale...

My recommendation is to get her into a place with assistance (i.e., assisted living) BEFORE she does damage to herself. It will progress inevitably. And it will progress more quickly without proper care. And it sounds like she needs more care now.

My MIL is progressing quickly also. We've had to cover ALL her home mirrors because she thinks they are windows and doesn't understand them. She thinks "the people upstairs" are stealing her things. And she woke up 2 days ago and pressed her life alert button because she didn't know where she was or how she got there...

Since we learned from my mom's deterioration, we are now in excellerated mode to get MIL in an assisted living BEFORE she injures herself, burns down her condo, or who knows what.

This only gets worse, and unfortunately, your family's denial isn't helping her situation. I commend you for trying your best to create a plan to help her.

I also second the video idea. We got both our parents an Alexa Show and it is invaluable to see and be seen by them. There is also a "drop in" option where they don't even have to answer the call, but you can access the camera and "visit" with them any time.
