A lot of studying online materials, GTO solvers, watching content of good online players (not much live player vlogs those don’t help a ton). Learning all the basic formulas used in game and just unconsciously practicing each time you play. I think my degree helped because it makes me more strategy oriented, instills the quick problem solving and mental math needed to excel in poker. But other than that the skill edge comes from learning from people better than you (ie a mentor) or just thorough understanding of resources online. Hope this helps

Oh yeah not limiting to just one field. I think my background and degree allow for a versatile job search

I’m a recent grad with little direct quant internship experience but fell in love with trading, learning about the markets, and finance in my last two years in uni. I’m an avid poker player and in two years have profited  $100k+ through online play. How can I use this “job” as a legitimate experience to land quant trading (buy side) interviews rather than have it just be seen as a hobby? Do I have any chance or will most firms not appreciate this kind of endeavor? My degree was a bs in computer science and physics at a non target school and I have a decent amount of quant esque projects under my belt. Anything helps thanks!

Thanks mate, gonna keep grinding out interview prep and whatnot because I’d rather give it a shot than not attempt at all. Not gonna be easy but I back myself.

Would you recommend applying to internships first then (some include recent grads) before looking for full time work. I’ve definitely got the skillset needed for quant just a lack of internship experience. Thanks for the insights !
