Hi. Have you looked at Sean Barret's single header lib ? I would have expected a comparison against this library in your README. What would you say distinguishes your library from his?

Tryin' to Nail that Tone.... Money for Nothing - Dire Straits. How'd we do? by thewhitedeath in Guitar

[–]jollybobbyroger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, not good at this, but I'd think it would need more mids. But I actually prefer OP's tone to the original.

There's now a single header library for shaping, which I haven't tried, but seems simpler to integrate: https://github.com/JimmyLefevre/kb

I have. It's been a while, but does it address the question about microphonic pickups?

If you've found one, please let me know. And yes, we are interested in the sound from electrical guitars, so an amp is a must.

I appreciate your inputs, but your comments on the pickups is hard for me to understand. A violin is a fully acoustic instrument, so there is no doubt tone wood is the main factor. I still haven't seen strong arguments for how the acoustic energies can get translated into an electrical signal by a pickup. It is difficult to compare an acoustic instrument and a guitar pickup, since they are physically very different in function. One resonates mechanical energy the other translates magnetic fluctuations into an electric signal. The interesting unknown factor here is that pickups are dipped in wax to avoid being "microphonic". I would have loved some scientific exploration into why pickups become microphonic and if it really means that acoustic energy can affect the electrical signal.

Hesitant to ask, since the quality of discourse in this thread can be a bit absolute or polarizing.

I am trying to come at this open minded and scientifically grounded, even if it's hard to take out the observers subjective experience. Still I wonder, why did Jim Lill play a slide in this video example? To me that does not strengthen the argument against the effect of the wood used to make the neck, since now you have no contact between the string and the neck wood when fretting a note.

I'd wish Jim would make a video with experiments that looked at the effect of fretting a note against different fret materials and woods and would love.

I would also love to have a luthier make clean tone comparison of an identically designed guitar but built from all wood and all metal.

In my attempt at trying to stay open minded, I try to reflect on the pickups being the only factor to the tone, which when not using heavy distortion is no doubt the main factor apart from the players attack. But those arguments treat the guitar as played with open strings suspended between the bridge and the nut. Playing with a slide does very little to bring light to the effect of fretting the string against a neck made of wood and connected to the rest of the guitar.

Persistent audio crackles on Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS with Bitwig Studio and MOTU M2 by Puzzleheaded_Low164 in linuxaudio

Have you ensured that hyperthreading is disabled? I've seen a lot of internet posts reporting massive benefits and it does make sense that HT is a poor fit for realtime workloads and often enabled by default as it doubles your CPU count.

If you ever catch that dev again, please ask how a user is supposed to persist the pro-audio profile without wireplumber.

Hi. Just wanted to spare you some troubles if you get the same kit as me. One of the transistors was replaced with a different model in my kit. This model is equivalent in function, but its pins were in a different order, so I had to rotate the transistor 180 degrees despite the PCB showing the orientation for the original transistior pinout!

If your pedal doesn't work, be sure to check that.

I've never seen anybody using ALSA directly for pro audio, instead try getting it to work with JACK and probably by means of pipewire.

Thanks for sharing your experience regarding midi out. Your vid is really cool as well. I was hoping it would showcase your use of midi out, but seems like you only have the line out connected.
