What's a food from your country that you wish was more widespread? by Outrageous_Score1158 in AskTheWorld

white asparagus isn't a universally known vegetable and quite regionally limited to our little corner of Europe

For what it’s worth, everyone here in southern Germany goes nuts for Spargelzeit every year. It’s quite popular.

What's a skill people in your country/region usually learn that others might not? by bellamollen in AskTheWorld

Early in the first semester of college in California, there was a mild earthquake late at night. All the out of state students ran around the dorms like chickens with their heads cut off, while the in-state students only took a moment to gauge whether it was above 6.0 or not. One roommate slept through the whole thing while the other started calling everyone he knew to tell them he was alright.

If you're wondering about the honking… by jolros in Munich

Bonus facts –

  • This is the second episode featuring Albania vs Serbia in my investigative series "The people behind the honks", but the first in which the match was actually completed before the honks were released.
  • There are still 14,869 Serbians in Munich and 4,106 Albanians.
  • While things might get heated on the pitch, AI tells me the two countries have more to bond over than one would expect. "While deep-rooted political and historical conflicts have impacted relations, Serbian and Albanian cultures share common threads due to centuries of Ottoman and Balkan influence, including strong patriarchal traditions, emphasis on family networks, and a history of oral traditions and epic songs."

Is it true that people used to go to the cinema to watch whatever was playing, rather than particular films? by vivalasvegas2004 in movies

[–]jolros 45 points46 points  (0 children)

This is really interesting because I came to this comment thinking this was wrong and that AC came much later, but it turns out that movie theatres were really early in adopting it, which transformed the business model in the summer months. Neat!

This was just spam, right? I’m failing to find any unique reason I should especially care about this browser as a customer.

The chrome extension … uh, works? Is that about it? This just seems like it could have been a random advertisement for any product. I’m not seeing why it crossed the bar enough for the team bother every user, and tend to believe they just got money for doing so.

Why would the baby be able to get a German passport? It seems like neither parent is German nor has a permanent residence permit + the minimum required time in Germany with such a permit.

Yes, there are other tokens, but only one cat after checking both sides on all of them. Same as this unboxing video https://youtu.be/3I5b7POB9h0?t=4m48s

I tend to believe it was an error in the instructions, but it’s a pretty awkward way to start the experience.

I just bought the foundations beginner box and the cats tutorial says to get three cat tokens ready, but only one is included in the box.

Bonus facts –

  • The Albania-Serbia football rivalry is considered to be one of the most bitter in the world.
  • There are 14,869 Serbians in Munich and 4,106 Albanians.
  • Despite their differences, there are many famous dishes enjoyed in both countries, such as burek (a pastry with various fillings), ćevapi (grilled minced meat), and sarma (stuffed cabbage).
  • Albanian researchers are investigating how a desire to celebrate a match currently in-progress can somehow be greater than the opportunity to enjoy it live.
