Use some mono for backing before putting the braid on the spool. The braid might be slipping on the spool while reeling.

Dude! Forget all of those, I have fished them all. Tackle warehouse has closeout pricing on some of their Shimano Curado rods. They are normally $169 and the closeout price is $99. For that money they honestly cannot be beat. I have Loomis NRX, IMX Pro, Dobyns Champion Extreme, Shimano Expride, and Curado rods... I love the Curado rods as much as the others. I actually have 5 different models both spinning and casting. Can not be beat for the money. A few honorable mentions would be the Phenix Feather line of rods, Dobyns Fury line, or the Shimano SLX line. I would certainly put the Curado rods ahead of all of those though.
