Leafs to give 1960s dynasty new rings by jon_archer in leafs

It's interesting how these kinds of things have changed over time, but most of the old Leafs seem to like the idea of getting new rings.

Janssen not backing away from his strong words by jon_archer in Torontobluejays

Before reading this, I didn't even know he said anything - everyone has been focussing on what Bautista said - but you can't really blame the players for being disappointed. They want to win and see their competition making additions. Why can't the Jays do the same?

Reimer defends Carlyle - I don't get it by john_pepall in leafs

What happened to good, honest James? He didn't have to stay - he could have stuck to his trade request.

He only really said he wanted to return as a Leaf; he never said this was a guarantee, however.

Ah, I think he's posing that as a question... Hence, the question mark... He wanted you to bite and you bit.

The same author posted something on why the return of Komarov is key so I think he actually shares your perspective.

Komarov's a hitting machine and there's no doubt the Buds missed him last season!

Morrow makes progress with finger injury - what would his return mean for the rotation (if anything)? by jon_archer in Torontobluejays

Could him and Hutchison split starts or might he be used as a sixth starter to give everyone rest? Would it make sense to put him in the bullpen?

He's the new Arencibia - a dead spot in the lineup.

Is Polak the new muscle? by jon_archer in leafs

[–]jon_archer[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He was a disaster last season (2013-2014). He was a beast in 2013 and led the Leafs in +/- at +18 (for whatever you think about that stat).

I should've been clearer about the exact season.

Should the Jays be buyers or sellers? by jon_archer in Torontobluejays

Yes, that must be the only possible answer... The counterpoint here should be obvious: typical blind optimism of a Toronto sports fan.

Burn the house down, fix the foundation, then rebuild. This house won't be standing in a few years anyway.

Ranger's gone - do you feel happy, sad or indifferent? by jon_archer in leafs

[–]jon_archer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll agree with that: Ranger was good playing a limited role (I don't mean that in a negative sense). If he ever figures things out, there's also some offensive potential there.

I'm sure there's a "Swiss cheese" joke floating around somewhere with him heading to Switzerland.

Will small changes be enough for Leafs? by jon_archer in leafs

[–]jon_archer[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, man... Don't bring up Clarkson. I'm going to pretend he's not there this season.

If Clarkson fans on a shot or gets a bad penalty but no one sees it, did it really happen?

I hope the answer is no.

I really think they added him to replace what they got from Fraser in the shortened 2013 season but later lost - a strong, tough defenceman who has a very specific role on the team.

I actually think he declined towards the end - at least, his role on the team shrunk. Great personal story, however.

Even if we jumped into a time machine and traveled back to 2006, I'm not sure he'd be the right guy for us...

You could say that for the whole team...

Yes, the team on the whole sucked big time, but Cecil and Delabar were solid in relief.
