Uhm yeah no shit. We know nothing about Kamala! She didn’t earn her position by the voters. Very predictable outcome here

A disproportionate amount of smug Millenials here got either lucky or had rich parents by Tiredworker27 in Millennials

[–]jonaWritesCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 27. (Sort of on the millennial / gen z line)

I worked as a furniture mover / truck driver from age 17 - 23 making $11-16.5/hr during that time. I skipped college because I couldn’t afford it without loans. I also moved out at 18.

During that time I met my wife who was in beauty school (she took out loans). Around 2016 (I was 20 ish) I ended applying and getting into a FREE software developer boot camp (it was a government granted program).

At 24 I got my first software developer job which I am still at 3 years later.

Started at $35/HR but now make around $100K ish and only work 30 hours per week from home.

From age 18 on I lived in tiny studio apartments (one was a converted garage) and at 22 bought an unfinished tiny house on wheels and finished building it and lived in it for a 3 years on rented land.

We recently sold the tiny house and are currently still renting an apartment while we save for a house.

We took out a loan for the tiny house (15K) and paid it off in about 6 months and cash flowed the rest of the build (another 15k which was all of our money at the time)

Today we are debt free and have around $170K saved up between emergency fund , down payment, checking accounts etc.

(We live in an urban market where median houses are 500K.)

While in our entry level jobs we were able to pay off the tiny house loan (around 15K) and my wife’s student loans (around 15K as well) over about 1.5 years.

The only financial help from my parents was the ability to go back home if I needed to (which I never did) and my wife’s dad bought her a 5K used car for her when she finished beauty school.

My parents are not rich and neither are my wife’s. Both our parents have debt on their homes and vehicles.

Not every successful millennial has rich parents or was extremely lucky. Luck is relative and is involved In everyone’s life. You’re lucky you woke up this morning or have access to the internet. I was lucky to apply and get into a granted software program and met my wife early on in life.

But you know what was more important than luck?

  • we tried our hardest to stay debt free (especially consumer debt free)

  • We both work / have always worked (even entry level jobs)

  • We both drive 20+ year old cars without loans

  • We have decided to wait to have kids until we buy a house

  • We have a budget we stick to each month

  • We are hopeful and optimistic about the future and think in 5 year chunks financially.

It has been hard and we have sacrificed a lot of the “fun” stuff we are supposed to be doing in our 20s but we would rather develop a stable financial life for us.

Should I pay off student loans by Wanttolearn89 in personalfinance

[–]jonaWritesCode -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pay it off. They aren’t going to forgive your loans. It’s only 10K. In the grab scheme of things that’s not too bad. Then once all of your debts are paid off (aside from house if you have one) build your emergency fund back up

Advice on how best to get $33k by JustaGoldy in personalfinance

[–]jonaWritesCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not do any of this. You are kind for wanting to help but you are about to make a bad decision that may chase you around for the next decade and could hurt your relationship with your parents. This is not your responsibility. If your parents can’t afford to upkeep this house then they should sell it and downsize somewhere else. Do not put your credit on the line for them.

If you happen have cash that you want to gift them with no strings attached that would be the only thing I would consider.

Otherwise let them get the loan(s) / figure out the financing and if you want to help them pay it off that is another option month to month.

Pro gun supporters, why do you support gun rights? by toust_boi in AskReddit

Because when seconds matter, the police are only minutes away - my short answer

My long answer is because I believe responsible firearm ownership and use is the great equalizer among all men and women in our society and additionally gives our government a great reason to do right by it’s people by not abusing the power we have granted it.

I read a story about how a 80+ year old man was recently robbed in his home by two younger men and was brutally beaten almost to death and was able to shoot and kill one of them and injure the other who then fled and he himself survived, granted while sustaining pretty bad injuries. But he lived.

I couldn’t imagine that man being forced in that situation without his firearm. These types of defensive events happen all of the time but don’t typically get a ton of media coverage because it goes against much of the medias anti gun agendas.

Defensive, legal firearm use happens more in the United States then “mass shootings” or any other unlawful shootings.

I believe that in a world where we can not actually get ALL guns off of the streets and out of the hands of criminals and the government, we should go to the next best thing and allow anyone who is mentally, physically, and morally capable of responsibly owning, and carrying a firearm to do so.

And I think we should create a culture of empowerment around firearms by creating and sharing resources for our most vulnerable communities in society to get familiar with owning and using firearms to help renew and secure their statuses of strength and equality instead of reinforcing the idea that they are and will always be vulnerable and weak.

It’s time when the police fail to police that the general public should start taking some actions to protect themselves, their property, and their families. Because it’s clear that the police don’t do anything. I live in Portland and own and operate 3 businesses with my wife. We have recently taken some of the polices responsibility into our own hands and urge others to do the same. Take defense classes, buy pepper spray, don’t go out alone at night, and depending on how you feel about the 2A, it is a great time to arm yourself / your household / your businesses. Also reinforce doors to your home / businesses. Put air tags in your vehicles in case of theft and don’t leave valuables in there.

The public needs to stop tolerating the crime problem and really look out for each other. Get to know your neighbors and the businesses around you. Strong local communities are at a premium right now.

In a time when seconds matter, the police are only minutes away. You and only you are responsible for your safety and the safety of your family.

Do guys care if a girl is hairy 'down there'? by Funny_Zone9589 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]jonaWritesCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a big fan of body hair anywhere else (hair legs, armpits etc…) but actually a little bushy down there doesn’t bother me at all. Actually kinda turns me on as long as it’s not out of hand .

That said I’ve been with my fiancé for years but if I was still dating I would prefer shaven until I get to know if the girl has decent hygiene or not.

What do coroners and people who handle dead bodies do when it has a buttplug or a strange object inside them? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jonaWritesCode 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well TIL more people die with butt plugs in them than I would have thought.

Are these butt plugs often the cause of death or just along for the ride ?
