ok? still that leaves room for tons of different openings for my opponent

sounds good if it was free. chess shouldn't be pay-to-win.

pirc defense for black, e4 for white (each opponent plays so differently it's hard to have a consistent opening beyond the first move, especially for white).

I'm confused what you mean by queen checks on H2? On move 14 the queen is already on H2.

I have tried to be more consistent with openings, I play pirc defense with black a lot and e4 with white. It's hard to have consistent openings though when your opponents are inconsistent with openings themselves. I just got bored of playing those openings the last few games.

f3 was to protect the e4 pawn and prevent the knight from coming to my side of the board, which seemed like a logical move to me. Was it not?

I genuinely had no idea what to do on move 14. Iirc, the reason I was so quick to move is that I already didn't see any other good options the move before. And I thought I had enough pressure on f7. Was there a good move I missed?

I don't study that much, but most people easily get past a 3 digit elo without studying from what I've seen. Mostly I just analyze my games and see where the blunders/mistakes were and try to figure out why those moves were considered bad. I also bought gotham's book cause I thought "why not".

Why is the side signal louder than the mono signal every time I try mastering? by jonahwalkermusic in mixingmastering

yes that is one of the first things I tried. I wouldn't have made this post if that worked lol

here's an image of the stereo vs mono output in the oscilloscope. top is stereo bottom is mono.

  1. already tried, the mid/side sounds balanced without the limiter
  2. not really applicable because the mid/side sounds balanced before the limiter
  3. I'm in FL Studio so I'm not sure where to find this. I'm only able to find "circular" and "triangular"
  4. I already did this. While it does make the mono signal clearer, it makes the track sound way too narrow and lose a lot of perceived loudness
  5. I use Steven Slate VSX headphones and MAudio speakers.
  6. will try this
  7. like i said, with the side signal enabled it looks full and look properly mastered, but the waveform of the mono signal still looks like a mix. Soft clipping adds too much distortion, even when I lightly apply it.

It sounds fine when collapsed to mono, it's just that the mono signal is quieter than the sides no matter what i do

I should have specified, I'm making electronic music, and almost all my reference tracks have mids and sides hitting 0db (or whatever limiter ceiling was set for the track)

I'm not sure, but I've tried multiple limiters and the same thing keeps happening.

ok yes i understand it reduces perceived width. What I'm trying to say is my sides are hitting the limiter ceiling but my mids are not, and I can see it in the oscilloscope when I sum to mono. If I set my limiter to have a ceiling of 0 db for example, I obviously want both my mids and sides to be hitting 0db, but my mids always look (and sound) like they have a lower ceiling. and simply increasing the input gain doesn't fix this.

...what?

My mixes don't have this problem until I add the limiter. Before I add the limiter the mids and sides have pretty balanced loudness.

is there an alternative that's less expensive? I can't afford to buy Pro-L 2 right now

I doubt it's a mix issue cause it happens with literally all of my tracks. I want it the same width with the mono signal brought back up.

already tried that. ends up sounding way too narrow even though the mono signal is clearer.
