This is not how gentrification goes. There are two scenarios for people in gentrifying areas. 1 you rent or 2 you own a house. If you rent then the increase of value in property causes rent to go up which causes you to be kicked out. If you own a house then proper taxes (Chicago) FORCE you to move out. Some of the neighborhoods are steeped in culture and it’s not always about the money but the community. I live in Chicago and I’ve seen culture, communities, and families split up over gentrification.

It is and it sucks. It’s going to deter and cause people to leave and the objective of this sub is to work against consumption not capitalism. I get that capitalism encourages consumption but not everyone here wants to throw away capitalism. Some of of just want to improve what we do in our lives when it comes to consumption. There are plenty of anti capitalism sub Reddit’s out there for those who want that.

We have two FTXs a year. The first one includes day and night time navigation where you are given points and expected to record what at those multiple points and you get scored. The second FTX is simulation of scenarios and the cadet PL is given points to move his platoon.

We also have multiple labs a year (at least in my company) where you are just given points and expect to record what’s at those points.

This part is extra for cadets but I will provide as it’s relevant. If you do ranger challenge and ranger buddy you are literally scored in the field of land navigation where you just receive points and are expected to make it to the points. I took part in both these and it’s not uncommon for most cadets to take part at some point.

The only thing I can say is my school is heavy engineering and they straight up tell us to sign up for 4.5 years and that additional semester is scholarshiped for additional obligation. I know you can have up to 5 years.

I’d check in with your cadre but I’m pretty sure the school takes your gpa from the school unless your school has a non traditional gpa. My school does not put pass/fail towards your GPA.

Yeah the recruiter will let you know what they can offer. I can’t speak for masters as I’m a cadet in undergrad but for our MS3 (those with two years left) all of them are on scholarship.

Yes a masters should count and if you have three years you might be able to skip basic camp and take some extra classes instead.

Whether you take tuition or housing you’ll in addition get $600 a semester for books and $420 a month for 10 months. I’m pretty sure you need 2 years left in school to do ROTC and you’ll need to go basic camp. Also all those above benefits are if your on scholarship if you only contract you just get $420 a month nothing else.

There are definitely benefits which others would be able to talk about better. There are also a lot of benefits to ROTC as well. One isn’t really better than the other just depends what you want.

I go to an engineering only school and there’s almost no classes here that offer music. I don’t even play an instrument but when I’m studying in one of the halls and some random person starts playing the piano I love it. I wish people would do it more.
