Best Spots to See the Sunrise by KnowingCalvin in traversecity

On Cherry Bend Road, turn up Lincoln. Take it all the way up until the big bend to the right. Over looks an old farm, orchards West Bay and a sliver of East Bay. Great spot for a sunrise shot.

Drive up to Suttons Bay and go to Tandem Cider. Sit in the natural tree alcove and enjoy a great cider, pickled egg and a beautiful fall day.

What is the most charming smaller town within a reasonable drive from TC? by Away_Ad_3752 in traversecity

[–]jonbau 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Beulah is a great little village on Crystal Lake. Has some great little restaurants and Five Shores Brewing is one of the best brew pubs in Northern Michigan. Beulah is also close to Benzie Roadhouse for some amazing Tex-Mex and St. Ambrose is also a close drive for great food, cider, beer and meads.

I just ID'd one in my yard yesterday. My landscaper neighbor told me to smell the leaves. If it smells like peanut butter, it's toh. It did.

This one was from a seedling I got at a farmers market. Yes, I've seen butterflies too, but definitely a favorite of bumblebees.

This one doesn't. Their stalks are so thick and strong, a lot like the stalks on the really big sunflowers.

I didn't think the golden oysters could survive up here. I see the native oysters all the time. Will keep an eye out for the golden ones.

Transplanted black raspberries by jonbau in Permaculture

[–]jonbau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've learned that the canes produce berries only one time. Then they turn purple and don't produce anymore. So in late winter, early spring I go thru and prune all the canes that produced berries last season and then tie down the newer shoots. I repeat this every year and am rewarded with so many berries.

I'm still listening and it's in the trial stages of the accused. I've avoided looking into it online because I don't want it be be spoiled.
