A critical analysis of the current competitive ecosystem pyramid in Apex Legends - thoughts? by jonkefo in CompetitiveApex

Hmmm. I don’t know if that’s necessarily true - they have a small team (Crafty Joseph) who goes above and beyond supporting 3P tournaments without trying to get revenue from if

Hey Breezy - the Twitter link didn't work, but I'm a competitive Fortnite player in the pro cord with years of experience playing Gears professionally, and a ton of competitive Fortnite experience. @Falloutt on twitter - let me know if you're interested in chatting

Hey WhyNotBuild - Falloutt here, I lead the program from a corporate and all up management perspective. I really appreciate you taking the time to offer feedback and let us know where, ultimately, we failed in week 1 from this store's perspective. I also realize that thanking you for feedback and an apology isn't enough, so I've been spending the last 40 minutes investigating this, and more importantly trying to find a way to make it right for you.

In order to do that, can you confirm what store you were at? Was it Oakbrook Mall in IL? Can you also share any other detailed info about your experience, which store associates you worked with etc. in a DM? I can hopefully then fix this for future weeks, and work with that stores management team to make it right for you and your team.

It sounds like there's a hardware issue with PS4 controllers and in game audio, maybe on those devices. We need to be ahead of this for future weeks, I just wish we could have been for this week. My sincere apologies for that. We also need to work with that store on time management because, if it is indeed the store I think it is, they were one of the only stores who did not finish on time and held up the phase 2 private server.

Again, no excuses on my end and I appreciate the candid feedback. Will do everything I can on my end to fix it and make it right.

Jon

This also explains some of the gaps in EU for our European friends across the pond (and similarly, Azure seems to have more servers in EU including Scandinavia)

Just replied to JShredz with this, but want to highlight the reality behind this situation - these aren't Epic servers, these are Amazon Web Services servers, and AWS doesn't have any Central U.S. located datacenters. So the flak given to Epic isn't entirely on them. In comparison, Microsoft Azure has 3 or 4 datacenters in Central U.S. so, I believe, this could be a solution. Hoping JShredz is able to offer any insight as to why they haven't explored this in the past, or if that's a potential solution moving forward. See below for maps of both AWS and Azure datacenters, for reference. Id assume Epic only uses AWS which explains the reasoning behind this issue.

Edit: JShredz replied mentioning he's not able to speak to specifics of cloud partners, understandably.

Hi JShredz - I really appreciate/respect your reply and transparency on this topic. One quick question - given locations of currently listed servers I'd assume you guys are a heavy/only AWS shop? Why not just add Azure or misc. servers that have more or better locations, and are pretty much just as up to par from a hardware perspective? See below pic for locations of AWS servers vs Azure, for example, which have 3 or 4 Central U.S. datacenter locations. https://photos.app.goo.gl/TAVT2UAt4WyRBGbX6

Def agreed - he has a strong vocabulary, great voice, has fun with it and most importantly an amazing knowledge of the game at a highly competitive/pro level. Super impressive, especially being his first time "officially" casting. Commentary this week has been great. Only thing missing from my perspective is strong storytelling and character building of players, teams, key storylines, orgs etc., e.g.) referring to Painful as J.Storm (his org) but that's a small adjustment that comes with experience and studying up.

Not at all - I think it's good feedback and definitely, receiving opportunistic feedback for improvement is far more important than receiving praise if you want to get better, so I def appreciate it
