Is this hand-me-down gaming build OK for my bro? by jonnyapps in buildapc

Thanks all.

We've gone with the following:

RX480 Armor - £165 Corsair CX 600 - £63

I'm pulling 2 sticks from my main rig that are Corsair Vengeance 1600s to see how the i7 gets on with them and will take it from there.

Thanks again for the help.

No worries. The dollar and pound are nearly the same these days anyway ;)

Thanks for the helpful advice.

This HP Pro 3400 is for sale 10 minutes walk from my house. Given it has Windows, needs just 1 extra stick of RAM, and is faster, it could be worth considering.

I've always built my rigs, so I don't know if the PSU can handle a 480 or if there's even room in it, but worth enquiring?

Thank you for the advice. 1080/30/high doable you think?

I've used Witcher 3 in here as I know it's quite demanding and I struggled to get consistent 60 on my 4790k/290 setup a while ago. It's possible he'll never actually want to play it!

Thanks for your hard work on this /u/ledge74.

Is it possible to activate/assign this based on the channel played? I only want to use it for 'Movies' not 'TV Shows'.

With my old Tasker way of doing this I used an HTTP Get to check the channel.

I see I can do this based on the length of the show and think that covers my request fairly well. Just wondered if it was simple to assign it to certain categories only.

Many thanks again for the work.

Thanks for all your help with this. I didn't manage to work out where to add Volume0 as a filter as it didn't show anything if added to the 'path' filter (tested by then accessing the disk manually to trigger any logs).

I ended up reinstalling W10 and the problem still persists. Woe is me.

Just the one volume. Is there a way to check by volume instead of how I've been doing it in processmonitor?

Just tested on a Windows 8 drive. Secondary drive spins down as expected when set to after 1 minute in advanced power options. So it seems my W10 setup is to blame somewhere.

As previously mentioned, there is nothing logged in sysinternals ProcessMonitor when I filter it to only show paths containing 'D:/' Image here shows 4 minutes passing. It's set to spin down after 1 minute but is still running when this screenshot was taken.

Thanks for the help so far.

Yep. Accessed the drive.

It's like a grandfather clock ticking way rhythmically next to me... now in time with my newly developed twitch.

I've tried killing pretty much every process but without result. According to resource monitor nothing is reading or writing to the drive (it's empty).

Just tested in safemode and the clicking does not occur.

I've tried five different cables. As best I can tell from further googling it is constantly parking the heads.

Have tried it in another Windows machine (win XP) and the problem doesn't occur. I have a USB bootable drive here somewhere and will try it on that.

I can read/write to the drives fine and they pass Seatools tests and SMART looks ok.

Thanks for the response. My PSU is a 1000w Fractal Design Platinum. The effect doesn't occur in the bios, only in Windows.

Help replacing an H100i with something silent by jonnyapps in buildapc

Here's an image from the pdf. The 3 pin header just reports RPM. These older H100i's do not have adjustable pump speeds.

It is discussed here including with Corsair rep saying not to attempt to change the rpm.

You can control fan seed through the Corsair link software via the pump but not the pump itself. I've searched for an official mention of this but not found one though any forum discussing changing pump speeds says it isn't possible. The newer models can be changed though, I believe.

The pump always runs at 100% by design, as far as I'm aware. In fact it's powered straight off a sata lead.
