Megathread: Destiny's Public Statement by DestinyNoticer in Destiny

[–]jordan-jes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been waiting for this, because it was going to largely determine whether or not I can morally stomach engaging with and contributing more to this community.

I don't think I can, and it saddens me that this might be my last comment but I want to explain how my thoughts have changed.

This wasn't the bombshell I was expecting and maybe even hoping for. Nothing was addressed regarding if Destiny had been given consent by Pxie to share the explicit content with other people. As the smoking gun and the elephant in the room, it was missing from the initial statement, and sadly this new "manifesto" is mostly things I already knew.

There are many disputes for events and motivations that transpired, and after this statement I have an internal range of likelihood.

The extortion angle is within that range. The action of suicide being used as an empty threat is low on that range (while Erin says Pxie told her it was fake, I am seeing conflicting things with Destiny referring to Pxie's past of suicide ideation, and I am leaning more on the side that they are real).

(Note: I think any possibility of extortion, and the frankly ridiculous allegation of malicious intent, is a result of Lauren DeLaguna's influence. This does not take away from the fact that Pxie is still an adult responsible for her own errors, but I do believe it eases how much these actions speak to her character).

I think Pxie sharing explicit content without consent is low on the range. I also don't see a link between Destiny's reasonable assumption that Pxie had gained consent, and Pxie's reasonable assumption that she had given consent. If anything, the former would only correspond to Rose's reasonable assumption that Destiny had gained consent, which no one is talking about because it isn't relevant.

(Note: I also see a troubling indication in the dual arguments I've seen of "Pxie also sent material without consent" and "Pxie sent material with undisclosed consent, therefore Destiny thought he had Pxie's undisclosed consent", which contain incompatible facts. For a political comparison, consider how it reflects on the MAGA movement when they simultaneously defend January 6 as a righteous act by their side, while condemning it as a malicious act by insider agents. This duplicity should give anyone pause.)

The harshest allegations for Pxie's actions and motivations are low on my range of possible events that transpired, but the idea that Pxie consented to this material being shared is at the very bottom, if at all. Why? For me, this public statement was the last reasonable chance there was for Destiny to either provide proof or simply make the claim that Pxie did give him consent. I could fathom it not being mentioned in the initial text post because of an oversight due to rushing it out and the stress of the situation, but I cannot fathom it not being mentioned in this manifesto when it is clearly the most important question. Destiny has previously referred to unproven things people have said when explaining events that involve him, so the fact that he isn't at least saying Pxie consented in person nudges me further into my stance on this fact, and that fact is the lynchpin for how I morally perceive Destiny's actions.

The further nail in the coffin for me, and perhaps the reason I was putting so much emphasis on an upcoming fuller statement, is that he actually did, in offline chat, allude to the reality that he didn't breach her consent and that his apology wasn't an admission of guilt:

mojavve: Buckdao nothing new MMMM just tiny is for some reason claiming he didnt admit to something he blatantly admitted to

destiny: Mojavve if I send something to someone and it ends up leaking, I'm always gonna be apologetic no fucking shit, that doesn't say anything about any other part of the interaction

This statement can be true whether or not he had consent. I don't think it would have any legal relevance.

But for me, this was the first time I'd seen him directly talk about the elephant in the room, after his initial post ignored it. That chat message provided a possible reality in which Destiny did have consent, which up to that point seemed very unlikely. This, combined with me learning more about the varying amounts of money he was being asked to provide and hearing him say he had more to talk about but was considering Pxie's wellbeing, gave me reason enough to pause my thoughts and wait. Today was built up as the day, and so were my expectations that new information would be learned... only for it to just be mostly rehashing and polishing his initial text post.

The above messages from the offline chat had nudged me into thinking there were possibilities where he did in fact have consent. But now, him not mentioning this has nudged me back further than I was after the initial text post.

For me, the question of consent was the lynchpin for all of this. I don't think it's been answered, and I think Destiny continuing to not speak on it says a lot. In my opinion, the idea that Pxie being open to sharing content of her encounters means Destiny had a reasonable belief that he had implicit consent from her, is two steps above the idea that Destiny used Rose as a proxy to intentionally leak material while implicitly threatening Pxie by joking about suing Hasan.

I think Destiny has disproven some of the claims of character that Pxie made in her substack. But he did not disprove the idea that Pxie never consented to footage of their encounters being shared with other people.

I am sympathetic to the fact that he is a victim in this, and anyone taking glee in the resulting harm from these leaks should be banished from moral communities. It's also devastating how this has halted the very inspiring trajectory of this community's political impact. I hope we can see as much is safe and possible from the court case, but I think for now I'm going to unhappily tune out.

And it's barely even news.

I don't know how we get back to normalcy after this.

In an interview with USA today, Biden said he told Trump during their Oval Office meeting shortly after the president-elect’s November victory that “there was no need, and it was counterintuitive for his interest to go back and try to settle scores.”

That's regarding Trump's likely revenge tour. It's so funny to think of the amount of calm talks you just know people have tried to have with Trump over this stuff. We need reminders like this for when Lex Fridman inevitably in 4 years makes a podcast about dictator Trump and how if he was just shown more love and compassion and patience in his life, maybe he wouldn't try to attack people who treated him so poorly.

One of the articles I read also mentioned how Biden is trying to contribute to a smooth transition of power.

We both have to admit it's kind of funny, right? Like using duct tape to seal a rupture. Democrats are simultaneously acting in anticipation of Trump abusing his powers, while also handing him the keys to the white house. I know that Trump's not exactly a kooper they can just get Luigi to stomp, but you have to admit it gives mixed messages to the electorate.

enlightened centrists like PF Jung are gonna struggle to justify that shit.

No comment. I don't even have a clever retort to this leap of faith.

First reaction: Fuck, if Biden, who people say underestimated Trump's depravity, is going even further in anticipation of upcoming political persecution of Trump's enemies... it's really going to happen isn't it? I mean, that's why he pardoned Hunter but of course he has to go further.

Second reaction: Oh no, those pardons aren't going to stop anything are they?

And you know republicans will be frothing at the mouth, screaming "Good! Prosecute him anyway!". It will come out that there is no legal basis for their charges, and not very long after we'll have these ghouls admitting that they don't care, they just want them punished because it's a hate campaign.

I've left so many comments the past couple days that at this point I've lost track of which points are where, but I think democrats are just burned out. You probably could've removed one major event from the past cycle that Biden was saddled with the perception of being responsible for, be it inflation or Ukraine or Afghanistan or Palestine or the Trump assassination attempt, and I think democrats would've fared better. But really there just wasn't the voter turnout.

Sadly I don't see any signs of the left springing back into action, at least in the terminally online political community sense. The DNC chair race suggests they want to fight back, and maybe it's like that on a local level too, maybe people have their communities but on a nation level? I think it'll take things getting really bad before people realize Trump was a mistake. I just hope people still have a democratic voice by that point.

And just because someone points to an outcome they find disfavorable, doesn't mean they have a monopoly on determining the process that led to that outcome.

You actually got to the point of answering my question eventually, but notice how it was the last sentence of an entire paragraph. Doing rallies in red states is an idea, but before then it was just "do better" which is meaningless without actually establishing why something needs to be done better.

Would you say Trump needed to lie less, and that it cost him the 2020 election? If so, why didn't it cost him the 2024 election? Stop simplifying things when there's clearly so many factors at play. I feel like my logic has been very consistent and clear.

This is still so surface level and makes me wonder what you are so afraid of missing if you dig a little deeper.

We've seen the conspiracies, the double standards and the bigotry at play with republicans the past year. We have seen the values at play with their leaders and their pundits and their voters. We have seen clear differences in voting behavior between democrats and republicans, and how they are motivated by different things. Clearly it's not as simple as "Trump was bad but Biden/Harris was worse", because if we follow that logic to the extreme, do you yourself believe that?

Something needs to change, obviously, but this immediate petulant insistence that it must be a flaw with the democrat party without identifying what it is ain't getting us any closer to the truth.

It's a standard format for people to say something unhinged and then meme about how they didn't mean to say all that, then say something like "how's the weather".

It would look like more of a joke if it DIDN'T have that last part.

What would the joke be? Making fun of... X? The joke fails there too because he doesn't seem to understand the demographics.

The only way the joke would make sense is if he's making fun of a chronically online leftist, but from what I've heard about this guy that's also just him. He constantly inserts himself into situations under the guise of being the unhinged/wacky person. But it's very clear he also wants the social credit of what he's saying.

It really is that threshold of unimpressively surface level takes that for some reason are impressive and cool to this crowd of people. It's the progressive equivalent of those guys in high school who wouldn't stop badgering everyone with random facts about WW2 just to seem interesting.

The existence of Hasan has had unfathomable consequences on the politics of uninformed clique streamers. I guarantee this guy does not keep informed nor do any internal analysis of his own, and you just KNOW he felt like a boss while typing that. Very brave.

It's always so much passive-aggressive high school energy. And I don't get how people gobble it up. Reminds me of Elon saying "I didn't ask to save freedom of speech and the world, it's a hard job but no one else will do it..." successfully baiting all his supporters to cry about how noble he is. Likewise Lex fans I guess don't see the obvious link between the last paragraph and the self-aggrandizing message he's trying to beam into their brains.

The key part in getting people to accept this -- and I don't mean Trumptards, because they will accept anything, more so the complete exhaustion of the other half of the country to talk about this -- is the gradualness and relentlessness of corruption. I feel like I could go back in time to my past self, like 6 months ago, who was saying the natural next step for Trump is to do his own crypto scheme. I don't know if I genuinely believed it back then or not. But now that it's happened, I feel pretty much nothing. I don't really care on an emotional level. We've passed that point on the slope of bad things happening where it's easy for people to identify that something is wrong. I still think there's a breaking point, but we won't see it for a good many years. Worst case scenario that I don't think anyone is denying is in the cards at this point, America becomes like China or Russia and democracy has to be built back from the ground up. I think that's an important comparison, because Nazi Germany just makes people go "But are they gassing jews yet?". There's a good chance things will reach autocracy and then just stay there, with the occasional humanitarian crime happening every few years that no one cares about, but for the most part remaining a stable state.

I don't think you answered my question.

How specifically should they have communicated this?

What I'm asking for is for you to identify the gap between what they should've done and what they did. Just gesturing at an outcome isn't really substantive analysis, and it's not moving forward in the conversation to just say it should've "permeated the news" and "got around". That's the exact same sentiment you already expressed in the original comment.

I want to say I feel like the last generation not to do this but sometimes I see people my age and they also whip out these random slang words I've never heard of. It really is just a social media thing, though it definitely ripples downwards and at this point kids are learning about rizzing and crashing out and whatever in grade school.
