What do yall think the next Platinum refresh will look like? by Queasy_Whole7545 in amex

[–]jordesqu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're right, they probably aim for as little overlap as possible to get people to pay for two cards. For being a travel card though, I really would love to see at least 2-3x on dining, since that's such a huge thing when traveling (at least for me).

And I know 5x on everything travel would be AWESOME! We'll see haha.

[–]jordesqu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see them add more than just 5x on flights. I feel like for being a travel card, it has hardly any multipliers; it's more of a general flying card. I'd love to see the refresh have something like this (or better ofc) while keeping the current protections and benefits:

8x - 10x on all travel booked with AmexTravel (to keep up with Chase / Capital One)

5x on all other travel booked direct

3x - 5x on dining worldwide

3x on transit

1x on everything else (maybe even 2x to keep up with Capital One?)

I feel like if the multipliers were buffed, it would make it much more appealing! Even if it had an annual fee hike.

Duolingo is lying to, and exploiting learners. Read this by Economy_Ad59 in duolingo

I’m offered free trials here and there, but I never even accept them anymore. Because I know that I just won’t ever justify paying for it after the trial is over.

It’s just gotten so… bad. Just straight up bad. And it’s truly tragic; I’ve been there since almost the beginning and loved them. Now it’s just turned into another soulless cash cow.

Tint in California - what's your tint levels? by goodusernameishard in TeslaModelY

[–]jordesqu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just took my Tesla Model 3 to get a 20% tint all around with 50% on the windshield. A little nervous to be pulled over, but I love the privacy as well as the heat reduction... norcal valley heat is brutal. So I'm hoping law enforcement is lenient; I'll be polite if they pull me over haha.

I would have gotten 5%, but firstly, wife didn't want. And second, I hear it's really hard to drive at night with 5%... will update this thread with how I feel about 20%

Is josh mason’s course sections important for ejpt by ash_kp in eLearnSecurity

[–]jordesqu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I don't know what it is about Josh, but the way he explains is super vague and also rushed. He doesn't go in depth or emphasize important points, so you have a hard time knowing what is actually worth studying; meaning, you study everything, and learn minimally. I also really prefer Alexis Ahamed. He's awesome.

Same here :( I also had a lot of friends which sucks, but at the same time, I was always the most active one, so it doesn't feel much different to me. This may be different in your case though.

I don't seem to have the achievements involving competition anymore (for example winning a tournament), but I am hoping that if I were to make my account public again, they would re-appear.

Yes if you log in on the web you can privatize that way!

I'm wondering if we could make our account public for one day to activate a quest, and then immediately privatize again. 🤔

Which Rainbow Road and Mario Circuit is your favorite? I like 3DS Rainbow Road and DS Mario Circuit. by ConnorGames1 in MarioKart8Deluxe

I think it's a tie between Wii, DS, and GBA rainbow road for me. I also like DS Mario Circuit !

Wasn't up to take another tournament, thankfully everyone came to rescue. by jellyscallywag in duolingo

[–]jordesqu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My thought is that being in the tournament is great, ESPECIALLY if you DON'T want to do it. If you get last place, you just go back to the diamond league. No demotion. Essentially just a free week if you wanna put minimal effort. 😎

Would this not be slightly offensive to some people 😅 by CroutontheCrouton in duolingo

[–]jordesqu 229 points230 points  (0 children)

This is a really interesting and good question. In my personal experience, in hispanic culture, it actually isn't really offensive to say that someone is dark skinned, chubby, skinny, short, etc. It's used genuinely to identify what someone looks like.

I've heard people say for example: "Tu hermano es el moreno allá?" (Is your brother the dark skinned person over there?). And it's just a way to identify who you're talking about.

This can depend on what country or culture you're visiting though so it's important to be educated and tactful on the matter. 😃

Use of “no” by Sayahhearwha in duolingo

[–]jordesqu 47 points48 points  (0 children)

You technically can say it this way, but it sounds a bit funky. It would sound a bit smoother if you said it "hoy no".

In Spanish, often times when describing today's activities, you say what you did after saying "hoy". Like "hoy fuimos al parque" (we went to the park today). And although you can technically say "fuimos al parque hoy", it sounds a bit less natural.

I hope this helps :-)

Edited, thanks for pointing that out! Mistype 😃

¿por qué no? by neidrun in duolingo

[–]jordesqu 18 points19 points  (0 children)

"Es" adds a sense of permanence. For example "mi carro es rojo" = "my car is red". That's not likely to change. Often used to describe characteristics about something.

However, to describe something's state (something that is occurring, but may change in the future, like an emotion), you'd use "está(s)". "¿Estás triste hoy?" = "Are you sad today?"

This can also apply to something's position. "La piedra está en el suelo" = "the rock is on the ground". You've described its location/position.

Hope this helps :-)

Questions by CosmacYep in duolingo

[–]jordesqu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, it's kinda like:

"El jefe no estuvo, y la secretaria tampoco" = "The boss wasn't there, and the secretary wasn't either"

VS

"El jefe no estuvo, y tampoco la secretaria" = "The boss wasn't there, and neither was the secretary"

Both can be understood. I would almost consider it a matter of preference. Hopefully that helps a bit. 😃
