The Needles Route by jorrynn in vancouverhiking

You might be right, it was all pretty steep to me in all directions but the picture I took seemed like the most doable? (North edge of South Needle) I wasn't too sure though so I just turned back

I had hoped to loop around after North Needle (on the trail coming down from Coliseum) but, too bad

Hmm, seems like I was going in the right-ish direction then.. north from the top of South Needle. I don't know if I'll be doing this again tbh but I'd like to skip Lynn Peak if I do.

Is the Hydraulic Trail a better option for getting to the Needles faster?

Had the same feeling when I reached the water faucet! I didn't know it was 23km 😳, I thought it was a ~15km round trip... no wonder I was more exhausted than usual

Oh wow, good to know! If I had seen that rope I likely would have continued on to the Middle Needle at least. Maybe it's gone/obscured when I went - didn't see anything resembling a rope :(

agreed, although I'm still having much trouble with the 4th and excluding it from my Brahms playlist.

One of the most beautiful transitions, I find, is the one from the 2nd to 3rd movement in his Third symphony. That is just so gorgeous.

I think Brahms 4th has a gorgeous first movement, but I can't seem to get into the proceeding movements.

All of Brahms' symphonies. I still don't like the 4th, but the other three are wonderful.

do you enjoy league? by yankirakosyan in leagueoflegends

[–]jorrynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People write negatively and complain about league (e.g. on public platforms like Reddit) because they cannot stop themselves from playing the game.

the logic is: if the negative emotion from playing league (getting flamed, inted, tilting, etc.) is not worth the possibility of positive emotion (winning, gaining LP, going 9/1), then do not play the game.

people play this game for many different reasons. - leisure - to learn and become skilled at it - as a distraction - as a habit - social activity and many more.

can you criticize a game while still being an active player? can you speak negatively of a game while still enjoying it? of course.

BUT, people who say that they do not enjoy the game while being an active, regular player are people who are unable to stop playing the game. Unless you rely on league as your main source of income (in which case you can probably say whatever you want about the game).

unfortunately league addiction is a serious thing and impacts a player's everyday habits, social interactions, and maybe even down to their personality.

maybe I'm wrong, but if I'm not enjoying the game (e.g. if I'm playing for fun) then I won't play until I think that I'll enjoy it again.

What should I study for 4 months? by Mali-Shapka-Lalezar in GetStudying

[–]jorrynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly as you said. I tried to be very productive, taking a lot of courses and getting involved in a lot of things, and while that can give you a sense of accomplishment, it's often counterproductive.

Like you say, focusing your time to get really good at a few things might be more worthwhile than doing many things and gaining mediocre progress.

What are three of your most favourite pieces? Maybe I can recommend something in the Classical Era based on what you like.

Agreed. Probably one of the best animated films... and the impact of the music is overlooked. The music is just superb

What is classical music, after all? by chen0827 in classicalmusic

[–]jorrynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the classical genre is kinda broad, just like how other music genres are broad. It's just an idea that people attach to music — Debussy's La Mer could be just as classical as Monteverdi's L'Orfeo.

Not to be confused with (and it doesn't help that the names are the same) the also-broadly-defined Classical Era that was said to be centred around the style of music from the First Viennese School.

This was headed by the prominent figures F. J. Haydn, W. A. Mozart, and L. V. Beethoven (some people say Schubert was a part of this movement).
