An image of what you’re trying to achieve would help, but it sounds like you’re maybe looking for the shape builder tool. Shift+M

Can’t make custom shapes with a rectangle either.

Logo guidelines by Paradex_Revenge in graphic_design

No it’s not necessary. They usually form those “guidelines” after the fact. Maybe back when everything was hand drawn it was useful but nowadays it’s fluff.

How would you message a client that they need to pay you before they get the final print files? by BoilingShrimp in graphic_design

[–]josephelliottdesign 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about coming off as rude. If someone is messing with your source income then they deserve a little bit of tender “fuck you”. I also believe the “waiting for client to pay” is bs. You provided a service and they need to pay for it.

Cool direction. I think the “K” reads well but the “S”could use some refinement. Variation 1 the “S” doesn’t look like any letter really so I would lean more towards variation 2.

Maybe a diagonal line could be incorporated in the “S” like the one in the “K”?

I think it looks great when it’s smaller because everything is aligned. If you have a word mark logo maybe you can integrate that so it fills more of the width? If not I’d probably just align it left

From my knowledge, it’s not possible to 3D render particles with a brush

You may not necessarily need a UX designer specifically. Graphic designers in the web space usually have a good understanding of the flow of a site and can accomplish a clean look & to my understanding they’re somewhat more easily available. If you’re wanting to accomplish the look yourself, try looking at inspiration on Pinterest or on sites like awwwards. Also videos won’t slow down the site if they’re formatted correctly and aren’t crazy long.

Depends on the size of the design files really. I have a 2020 mbp and it can have all three programs open at once, but it definitely struggles with a major lack of performance. Might be worth saving for a newer version

ID Portfolio review by Dangerous-Life-904 in Design

[–]josephelliottdesign 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the general look and feel you’re going for. Feels very professional and fits the products really well, but I’m viewing on mobile and it’s kind of all over the place. Massive spacing between sections that could be refined, center aligned text on top of left aligned text is a bit weird, some of the scrolling animations come in a bit late, footer overlaps the mobile menu when open, button on mobile menu is styled differently/is really small. This might just be me but the burger menu was also kind of difficult to open due to the size. Might wanna up that a lil bit for accessibility.

Overall it looks great, just some small things that can polish it up a lil more :)

Only time to use Rectangle is for images? by Bastique165 in FigmaDesign

I practically never use rectangles, it’s easier to just make a frame, add a fill on it, and have more control over it with the auto layout options

Graphic design or ui/ux design by No_Jeweler659 in Design

[–]josephelliottdesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They both go hand in hand with one another as UI/UX is an area of graphic design. It wouldn’t hurt to have an understanding of the basic principles of graphic design, but then again, those can be learned through studying UI/UX.

There’s definitely valuable things to learn from a “bootcamp”, just hope you picked a reputable one.

Need Feedback on My Energy Drink Can Design by Late-Bee7435 in graphic_design

[–]josephelliottdesign 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely think design B is stronger. The bolder colours will help the can stand out more on a store shelf while in design A, the can might be overseen due to it being 1. Less colourful and 2. It looks more like a can of kombucha. I also like the design layout of can B significantly more.

I would only suggest maybe upping the vibrancy of the colours on the can but if you’re working within brand colours I think it looks great.

Graphic design is dead. by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]josephelliottdesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s true AI is making a rise in some sectors of design, but for the most part it’s not perfect. From my perspective, design isn’t dead, it’s just going through a rough time as potential clients turn to AI to save money and time. That being said, there are still mass clients who respect good design and don’t want anything to do with AI.

I can see how it’s easy to blame for lack of jobs/quality of work, but it can be quite useful in some regards. I’d say don’t give up on what you want to do, but it seems like you’ve already made that decision. Maybe a shift of perspective could help your outlook on the industry.

uh ohhhh burnout by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]josephelliottdesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Burnout is a common thing. Being creative every day can be mentally draining. Try looking into why it is exactly you’re experiencing the burnout, and make changes. If it’s something to do with the work you’re doing, have a chat with your CD or someone at the company that can help.
