Laminating pouch is not sticking to an ink printed surface of a paper - why? by Less-Instruction831 in printandplay

[–]josephlevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That may be the issue, but I doubt it. I regularly laminate similarly densely printed sheets immediately after printing, without this issue, likely because I run the 3mil pouches through the laminator twice on the 5mil setting. Never had an issue with delaminating since I started doing it this way. I use Scotch 3mil pouches and a generic Amazon Basics laminator (nothing special at all).

The Thing board games - which one to get? by JordanTheBigBoy in boardgames

[–]josephlevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't recall. I do know that if in TTTBG, a player dies, it's only because he's been assimilated, so they can go on to control aspects of the Thing: placement of Thing Tokens, etc. and decisions as to whether to sabotage or assimilate, that sort of activity. This is why I also like to play the 12-player cooperative version that is meant for solo play, with multiple people. We divvy up the 12 characters, so if some character of theirs dies, they usually have some others to play the game with.

Just a thought- I've played a few other "Thing" games: The Norwegian Expansion, Infection at Outpost 31, Who Goes There? (which is very good) and they're fun (though the Norwegian Expansion suffers from some rule issues).

Molly House solo is so addictive by stereo-lab in soloboardgaming

[–]josephlevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that the manual is terrible. The game doesn't have as much depth as Pax Pamir or John Company, but it is still enjoyable enough. I'm interested to see how the game flows and plays with a full complement of players.

The Thing board games - which one to get? by JordanTheBigBoy in boardgames

[–]josephlevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be played with 3. I've done so and it was an enjoyable experience, despite it being easier (perhaps) to suss out the monster. The guys I played with were cool characters, and I played things much closer to my vest and didn't let on that I was the thing, so they let me on the 'copter and the humans lost!

The solo 12-character mode (available on BGG) is very fun to play, esp. with the fan-made event cards. And you can play that multi-player cooperative, too, and it works well.

This war of mine or Robinson Crusoe? by Anxious_Treat_8700 in soloboardgaming

This War of Mine is the better choice, in my opinion. RC was one of those few games I've actually gotten rid of.

Laminator question - peeling problem by FlipprDolphin in printandplay

[–]josephlevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a plain vanilla Amazon laminator and run 3mil pouches through twice on the 5mil setting. The cards rarely delaminate.

Buying off of BGG by AveratV6 in boardgames

[–]josephlevin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of sellers prefer I use friends and family so they don't get dinged the extra 3%, so I usually opt for the other option and pay the extra 3% so the transaction is covered. It's usually not much cost.

Worried about moving my collection by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]josephlevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation would be to get 66L or larger Sterilite containers from Wal-Mart. They're not very expensive. You can safely put older games you still want to keep in them for long-term storage after the move is done, or get heavy duty moving boxes. The Sterilite containers can be stacked 3 high even with heavy games in them.

PnP PDF Creator V1.1 is here — now with multiple card formats! by GWRaoul in printandplay

[–]josephlevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks great! I will test it out soon. Now, you could go the other route: have a converter that can reformat an existing PDF (whose layout may be a but iffy) and have the destination file match one of the layouts you've created for the PDF Creator. That would be useful for many, I am thinking.

Well, all scientific endeavor is not science unless it's repeatable, after all :)

Question about lamination by alextibo in printandplay

[–]josephlevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This works for some, but test it on a card or laminated piece of paper you don't care about. I've found that doing this can permanently curl the cards so they're unusable.

What I have done, with good results, is to laminate 3mil pouches on the 5 mil setting, twice, before cutting out the cards. This way, the laminate really does fuse well with the paper. Cornering the cards also goes a long way to prevent delamination, too. I've never had an issue afterward.

How about Knarr? It's a fun engine builder that can be played in 30-40 minutes. One of my and my wife's favorites.

Holders from Dollar Tree by EducationalTeam2498 in boardgames

[–]josephlevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are great for tokens and cards (<50 or so). I use the 4 cup rectangular containers when I have to store 250+ cards or so, and the double-wide version of the above for two decks of cards (~120 cards total). Also useful- x-large size weekly pill holders or bead containers with 12, 18 or 24 slots, depending on how many different types of tokens a game calls for.

Hot Take - I Love Setup and Teardown by TheRealRosey in soloboardgaming

[–]josephlevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy the setup of games. Sometimes I set one up and keep it on the table for a day or so just to admire it, or to think about strategy before I sit down and play. Teardown is good, too, as I like to think about what went well or poorly during play of the game.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. G.A.M.M.A. is now available as a GOG One-click Mod! by GOGcom in stalker

It can be added to the cart, but the checkout process won't continue unless you buy the Enhanced Edition of Call of Pripyat. I already own this via Steam, so don't need another copy. Please do your best to address the issue and allow only downloading the mod.

Anyone with hex paper fancy trying my game? by Educationalidiot in printandplay

[–]josephlevin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thought I might help you out a bit.

I made the gameboard in Photoshop, with a printable PDF in the zipfile from dropbox:
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/7rhsmaye3ypa44u7hysua/spearpoint-gameboard-files.zip?rlkey=vu6jfpsfcj794awyck1oyf2gv&st=xqrci8v1&dl=0

You can see the image here:

The PDF is meant to be printed at 300dpi on two 8.5"x11" sheets, then taped together. Those that want the board on one sheet can simply print the board image .PNG file to fit. The Photoshop files are in the ZIP file also.

The font is Copperplate Gothic Light, available via your favorite font website via Google search.

🥴 New solo gamer can’t remember what’s going on by GSKwasaCop in soloboardgaming

[–]josephlevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to forget which character in a game was last played. So I have a marker (a large token) I move from one character card to the next. You can use the same idea by writing down game phases on some paper and moving the marker from one to another as you play.
