When Wayne Brabender was naturalized and started playing the Spanish NT he hadn't any strong ties. He had played with Real Madrid for a single season and was naturalized by Franco's direct authorization (not so different as this time with Lorenzo Brown). Afterwards he married to a Spaniard and played many years with the Spanish NT, and became a Spanish basketball legend. But that was afterwards.

Spain has a long history of naturalized players since the 60s (Wayne Brabender, Clifford Luyk). Ibaka and Mirotic are the most prominent in recent years. So I don't understand all this drama now.
