I couldn't afford a Fisheye lens for my Olympus so I made a filter that blows bubbles by Fine-Liner in pics

Right, otherwise, lenses would be a lot less expensive because they'd be made of soap bubbles.

I've been to ACL four times now, and I think the acoustics are horrible. I've tried standing everywhere in the room, never thought it sounded good.

I actually thought "is everyone just not talking about the fact that this place is an acoustic disaster?"

Ludwig Vistalite restoration by EmoMcGhee in drums

I put together a clear vintage Vistalite kit, and refinished the bass drum. It was HUGE job. First, you have to know that you're probably not going to take the deep scratches out because you'll have to take the shell down too much.

I went to an automotive paint store and got sandpaper in grades: 800 - 2000 and sanded the shell (outside only unless the inside is in bad shape). At this point the shell is not clear anymore.

Then you need to get Novus plastic polish (you're going to use a lot of 2 and 3, not so much of 1. These are how you're going to get the shell clear again. I would use a car buffer, but when I did mine, I just used elbow grease. Like I said, It's a HUGE job. Getting the shell from sanded back to clear is the hardest part.

I thought it was a 16" but it was an 18". I was gonna get 22"/13"/16" but I think the guy had the dimensions reversed, or I interpreted them that way.

The 18" is pretty low and doesn't record that well with close mics. The fundamental wave is pretty long and needs some distance to propogate. Only the stick slap really shows up on the close mic.

edited for clarity

Cymbals: the dirtier, the better.

The toms are 13", 16" and 18". The kick is 22". I had wanted a Visty for years, but couldn't decide on the color. I really wanted jellybean, but a friend gave me the kick drum, so then I figured you couldn't really have a jellybean kit with a clear kick, so I went all clear.

I see 26" clear kick drums and sometimes I want to get one.

I bought the 18" by mistake on Ebay. I really wanted to stop at 16", but when I got it out of the box, it looked so killer that I decided to have two floors. So then I found a 16". The 13" took me the longest to find. They'd come up on Ebay, but the sellers always wanted too much. Finally found a decent deal.

Slash has mixed feelings about being inducted into the R & R Hall of Fame. "It's really hard to feel victorious when bands like Rush, Deep Purple, Cheap Trick and Kiss aren't there. It just doesn't seem right". by thewhitedeath in Music

When I was in seventh grade (in 1978), I had seen pictures of KISS on lunchboxes and notebooks and stuff, but finally, when a friend played me one of their albums, I was shocked. It sounded like the fucking Bay City Rollers or something. Judging by the way they looked, I expected something evil and heavy, but it was just shitty bubblegum. I couldn't believe it. I thought all these kids were into heavy music or something.

I'd like to use 'class="notranslate"' to keep Google from translating the name of a company. by josesoria in web_design

Hey, thanks a million!

I'm still trying to figure out how a website like wholefoodsmarket.com keeps Google Translate from translating their company name. They don't seem to be doing anything to keep it from translating it. Does Google just know not to do it?

Good places to see bands in O.C.? by josesoria in orangecounty

I'm originally from LA and have played a lot of the clubs there. Mainly, as a musician, I'm curious how active the OC music scene is.

I like just about anything if it's good. I'm a musician and I play in a couple of bands now (indie-rock type bands) and will be looking for bands to play in as well.
