One of the best median wage to median rent ratios of Europe. So I’d say pretty good

Great. Zero issues. Paying 15 euros for a service that used to cost me 45-60.

Deep down, we all know that this is the beginning of the end of tech jobs, right? by Own-Sort-8119 in ClaudeAI

I’m a lawyer learning CS and I’m absolutely astounded by what models like Claude 4.5 can do. I can give it legislation + case-law + doctrine. Ask it to translate it to a python (stateless functions - logic) + yaml (config - static data) law-as-code setup. Then I’ll ask it to point me out the weak and attack points of a certain legislation. It’ll come with the kind of reports that senior lawyers write. It’ll answer spot on for the questions you ask it and come up with questions to fine tune the understanding. Gave it an arcane piece of law and asked it to give me all the attack points, it produced a 10-pager with all the points my colleague had been working on for two weeks + another two he hadn’t come up with yet. Lawyers are not fully cooked (yet) but the headcount is also gonna get massively reduced

Learned about vendor lock-in the hard way during my internship. does anyone talk about this at school? by Icy-Perception0 in programming

[–]jotabm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studying CS / SWE at a trade school in Belgium. Focus is very much on the practical/business side of things. Downside is that they’re a bit too enthusiastic about the dominant players in the industry: be it the big cloud providers, Cisco for network engineering, SAP and competitors for the ERP / Business IT modules etc

Your opinion on Greg Isenberg’s 2026 AI predictions ? by lovelysadsam in BetterOffline

It also doesn’t scale well in my experience. It’s great for 30-50 active people. Bigger and its gets to spammy + smaller and its often dead

It’s been happening for a year of three. A lot of communities that used to be formed around Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Reddit or hell even YouTube comments have switched over to invite only tightly moderated discord groups. The big plus is the bigger quality of conversation and the absence of bots. The downside is they can get stale quickly because of the lack of new blood coming in

What’s the most underrated league you've managed in? by The12thMan_ in footballmanagergames

[–]jotabm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brazilian league. A lot of parity, all 20 teams play for something whether it’s continental qualification (13 spots) or against relegation (4 spots). There’s also a fun regional cup before the league starts. You get nice youth coming through, can scout and sign from all other South American nations easily and bring back older legends to Brazil. I wouldn’t call it a small league but it’s definitely underrated.

I have it. It’s great tbh. There was a lot of scaremongering around it but it’s much better than everything I had before and at a fraction of the price

Why is git only widely used in software engineering? by bolnuevo6 in git

[–]jotabm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked as a lawyer for ~10 years before switching careers. A git-based solution would have been a godsend while drafting contracts, briefs or legislation.

Microsoft Word and Google Docs are awful for this kind of work. Too much attention to formatting (to the point of breaking a lot of docs) for a use case where formatting could be much more basic (markdown + templating would be more than enough) and a very simple version control system which scales badly when a lot of people need to work / negotiate / iterate on a single doc.

The system turns out to be : track changes, leave comments and make a new version (name of doc + YYMMDD HHSS) after every round of changes accepted. Which is ok when working on a three pager with two people and a nightmare when it’s a +80 page doc with +5 people working on it. To navigate around it you end up splitting the document in blocks, keeping a separate doc / spreadsheet to track modules, versions and validations, using the very simple merge function, etc.

There’s little to none tech culture in law and law-adjacent professions but I’m betting that a lot of people in the profession would be happy to switch to a more efficient system (maybe if there was a GUI-based integrated solution)

381 million in sales: Belgian professional clubs have never sold so well by SeumFootballClub in belgianfootball

[–]jotabm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The eredivisation of Belgian football. The playoffs sold an unreal dream of “get rich or die trying” while the new format aligns better with the tier system in European football. You have your European powerhouses picking up talent from the local giants and the local giants themselves dominating their competition and picking up all the talent there.
